The 49ers used Kansas City’s second-round pick this year to add another pick in the third round next year. And depending on how the Chiefs play, it could net the 49ers yet another second-rounder next year. Peter King of Sports Illustrated has filled in the blanks on the conditional 2014 pick the Chiefs owe the… Read more…

I tend to agree with Chiefly, winning cures all. I don't agree with what they gave up for Alex but until I see him play the first few games of the season in red and gold it's hard to say what is too much.

Maybe it's just me, but I really hope they have to give up a 2nd rd pick next year.

Well people are complaining about giving up two seconds for Alex but most of those same people wanted to give up a first for Geno, go figure. It is what it is people so move on or learn to live with it at least, there is nothing we can do about it.

Well, you gotta have a QB, and there options were slim. we could have just as easily picked a bust in the 2nd round too.

I don't honestly believe that the new staff will be as inept at drafting and developing a QB as we've seen in the past, I'd be fn dumbfounded if they ignored it like we're used to. I hated the smith trade when it happened but given all the circumstances this year I understand why they chose him, I still think they should take their time on an extension of his contract. When the QB pool is a lil deeper in the draft they will find the true answer to our woes.

Firstly I think in my opinion 8-8 is a heck of a better season than we even thought about last year. Wouldnt be a bad record for a team with a new coach, gm, and qb as well as many new pieces. We have talent on the roster but I dont think its all gonna gel into a playoff season. (Although I wont be mad if Im wrong) If we are competitive in most games, adn not getting blown out and go 8-8 to me thats a good start to this regime. If Alex Smith is a big part of us having that record then to me he is worth it. Im not passing judgement on this team yet, putting my faith back into this organization to get back on track. Innocent til proven guilty!! If we continue to improve with him in 2014 then he becomes even more worth it. I think he was the best option at qb through FA and the draft. Give him a running game (which we have), and a defense (which were working on), and he will do what he did the last 2 seasons in SF. Go Chiefs!!
Doing my best to keep my sons memory alive!!!

Would be interesting if we got to Week 17 7-8 with no playoff shot

At the end of the day think it boils down to this...Reid wanted Smith, and the 49'ers saw it coming. Period.
