With three of the top 10 draft picks blinking in the past 24 hours on the issue of offsets, the Chiefs are trying to make it a quartet. Per a league source, the Chiefs are pushing for offset language in the guaranteed money to be paid to tackle Eric Fisher. On one hand, it’s an… Read more…

As mich as i dont like the chiefs doing this i have to agree. Position do matter. A qb and a linemana lt shouldnt be paid the same. But it is what it is.

The Chiefs can not negotiate the contract itself, he is going to get paid the same regardless of him being a QB, RT or kicker. He is being paid based on being the #1 pick overall. All they are squabbling over right now is how much they would owe him should he turn out to be a J. Russel type of player and is cut prior to him receiving his guaranteed portion of the contracts. The part they are negotiating is how much the Chiefs would owe him should another team sign him after the Chiefs cut him. So that they are not still paying him while under a different contract.

So basically they are keeping him out of camp right now where he could be getting some crucial work and preparation done, so that they could possibly save some money to cover up the fact they completed messed up this draft by taking him #1 over all should he be a bust.

Now maybe it his agent holding things up, but the Chiefs should be confident in their selection and consider this to be a moot point. Should he be a bust, they should just eat the contract as punishment for making the selection.
