This is good news. Four years is a good amount of time, figure out what we have with him, and a great opportunity for him to earn a bigger paycheck down the road.

Although he is getting a kings ransom (not surprising for the number one pick), the deal is very cap friendly. We are currently 605k over the cap (http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/cap-hit/). I imagine as people get cut that should sort itself out by the time the season starts. Then again, I don't even know what the consequence is to being slightly over the cap.

You got that right. The '97 and '98 Donks were way over the salary cap. The Chiefs will be under it when they get to the final 53 man roster.
If the Chiefs are to become SB champions again, I want it be outright -- something that cannot be truthfully said for the '97 and '98 Donks as they had those given to them by the league office.
