The Chiefs were tired of waiting on Jon Baldwin, and the 49ers were tired of waiting on A.J. Jenkins. So naturally, they traded their problems for one another. The Chiefs announced the deal of former first-round wide receivers, with the 49ers getting the 26th overall pick in the 2011 Draft for the 30th overall pick… Read more…
LOL - Look at all those 9ers fans thinking they got a great deal. Fact of the matter the Chiefs just saved on cap space by dumping a bigger contract of Crap on them.

I can't complain much about this deal. Baldwin got 2 years and flat out failed to prove himself. The drops against the 9ers were AWFUL. Jenkins may wind up being no better, but worst case I guess we saved some cap space. Best case, maybe Jenkins responds well to different coaching and turns into a decent receiver. I see no downside to this deal.
Also jenkins is a btter fit for our offense. Also faster I believe.
I read that he was more "quick" than fast. He gets off the LOS and gets open quickly. That won't matter much if he can't catch, or hang on to the ball. He has also been described as "slippery" --- hard to tackle in the open field.
I also read that he is a pretty good return man on special teams.
I don't know if he is an upgrade from Baldwin, but he's no worse for sure.
And he will save the Chiefs some money while they waste a roster spot on him (possibly).
Smith is familiar with him from practicing with him in SF. Maybe the new environment will spark him to play better. We'll just have to wait and see.

This space is reserved for something that has nothing whatsoever to do with MatthewsChiefs. (Whoever THAT is!)
This doesn't surprise me at all, as I had posted earlier today in another thread that Baldwin had "exit stage left" written all over him. Perhaps Jenkins can come around in his new surrounding in KC, but he's got to learn to hang on to the football, just like the rest of Chiefs receivers. I can't fault the Chiefs brass one bit for pulling the trigger on this trade.
This is true, but with this having been done, it should give Donnie Avery more of an opportunity & he's the guy that has the speed to get separation from defenders. To me, Avery is the guy that has to step up and become a reliable target for across from Bowe.
People have to remember that John Dorsey comes from the Packers where excellent WR play is a staple up there, and him and Reid are not going to tolerate guys that can't get open and catch the football & they've spoken loud and clear in that regard with trading Baldwin.
I know that going into that 2011 draft that I thought that Randall Cobb was a better prospect than Baldwin, because not only was Cobb a skilled route runner with good hands, he was a great kick-returner, could play wildcat QB, and could be a holder on place-kicks. To me, Cobb was the better overall football player, but Pioli and Haley foolishly went with Baldwins computer numbers, instead of going with the better football player in Cobb.
