The Chiefs currently have priority on claiming any player they choose on waivers. They have made use of that of that privilege. For starters, they were awarded former Seahawks defensive lineman Jaye Howard on waivers, as PFT reported Sunday. Also, according to ESPN contributor Adam Caplan, the club added former 49ers wide receiver Chad Hall… Read more…

I was suprised that jalil brown made it this far. He never looked that good. Hes strictly a special teams player. His body alway looked out of place when he would move with receiver. Looked strange to me but it could just be me.

I read a response over there that they also waived Devon Wylie.

Wylie is gone. Also Powe is gone. I did not see that coming.

Darn it. Liked both Wylie & Powe, but the Pioli purge continues. Figured something was up when they listed 52 players on the roster but were claiming 3 from waivers. Wylie and Powe will probably get a 2nd look with another team, though.

Seahawks fans are very unhappy about the release of TE McGrath. Maybe the Chiefs did get a good pickup here. Certainly closes the Tony Moeaki chapter.

Here are my thoughts on Wylie.

He was very good on returns, but so were Davis and McCluster. When Toub was with the Bears everyone knows what he did with Devin Hester, but Jonny Knox and Tim Jennings (I think) were also very good on kick and punt returns. I think Reid feels that as long as he has a fast returner who can make one guy miss, Toub's system will get them big returns. Dex and Nile are expected to do more than Devin with the offense and only one guy can return the ball at a time, so Wylie was just taking up a roster spot that they needed for depth in other positions (Like linebacker).

I also think his hamstring injury in the final preseason game may have been more significant than they let on, but Reid played it down so Wylie would have a better chance of getting picked up by another team.

The James-Michael Johnson pick is intriguing. I thought of him when I read that Edgar Jones was gone. he was a starter with the Browns and probably one of the best LBs to be cut, but i read that he didn't fit well in the Browns defense when they switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4. The Chiefs play a 3-4 defense so will he be a good fit with us? Might the Chiefs go to more of a hybrid defense or will they use him as a middle linebacker when they play a nickel defense? I guess we'll find out soon enough.
