If there’s one play that sums up the Chiefs’ unlikely 7-0 start, it had to have been quarterback Alex Smith faking a hand-off to no one, and the play working for a touchdown. The Texans, as you might imagine, were caught off guard, with several defenders standing there like Wile E. Coyote when he realizes… Read more…

In the article JC is quoted as saying that was a mix-up. I've watched that play over and over http://twitpic.com/di5fvy/full and I would swear that was a designed play. Watching that play it even looked as if JC slapped Alex Smith on the ash to let him know he was going by so that Smith would know to turn and run. And that block JC threw after he went by and cut left made the play work. What does everybody else think? Designed play or mix-up?
It looked clearly designed, even though at the moment it happened I thought; busted play. If it was a mistake, JC and Smith executed plan B on what to do if a play is busted to perfection.

If it was a busted play, then it is certainly the greatest recovery I have ever seen.

I'm inclined to agree. Just trying to get feedback from others Chiefs fans on what they thought of it.
Yea, that block by Charles was the key block to that mile wide hole for Smith.
Like he snuck around Smith like a pulling guard to deliver the block.
I think it was a designed play as well. When there's a busted play you see some some confusion or at least some signs of it. You didn't see that on that play. Smith just made the fake then ran. Seemed like a designed play to me
What is a TopekaRoy?
I thought the same, but had me thinking that if JC really says this is a busted play and if it was truly a busted play. The way the team reacted just shows you how well prepared the team is. Instead of being in a panic, JC did his part by saying OOPS I might as well Block and then Alex Immediately turned and ran where Charles was supposed to go with out hesitation from both of them they made it look designed. Assuming that it was busted that is.
It was a little of both I think. The play was designed for Smith to fake the hand-off to Charles and then follow him into the end zone. Either Smith turned the wrong way, or Charles ran past him on the wrong side, but it didn't matter. The play still worked as designed.
That was easily my favorite play of the game!
