The 2013 Chiefs have changed plenty of perceptions about the franchise.* Among the players now viewed differently is defensive lineman Tyson Jackson. Previously regarded as a bust from a 2009 first-round class chock full of them, Jackson has drawn rave reviews for his performance in his fifth NFL season. “He’s just an incredibly alert and… Read more…

He's doing the exact same thing he's BEEN doing since he got to KC. We've talked about what TJ is to the Chiefs before. If he were taken where he SHOULD HAVE been taken (2nd rd), he'd be exceeding expectations. He's a good NFL player. Pioli knew he was going to switch the Chiefs defense over to a 3-4. The Chiefs didn't have a prototypical 3-4 DE to put on the line. But the key to a good/great 3-4 defense is the NT... as we're seeing this year. B.J. Raji was there at #3 and should've been the pick even excluding hindsight. The NT is too important to a 3-4 to pass on and Pioli did it for 3 drafts in a row. Unacceptable.

Go back and look at that 2009 first round. Hindsight being 20/20, there's only a handful of guys I'd rather have than Tyson Jackson out of that first round. The guy is a real asset for this Chiefs team.

Yeah, it's funny how he was labeled a bust when the players around him weren't doing well, but now that the Chiefs are 7-0, and leading the league in sacks and points allowed, all of a sudden he is getting credit for doing the things he is supposed to do (and doing them well). Those of us who understand this kind of 3-4 defense have been defending TJ for a couple of years now when others were saying he didn't have enough sacks or tackles for a first round pick. Maybe he was picked too early but the important thing is that now we have the right pieces around him, regardless of what order we got them in.

It's nice to see that the media is finally catching on to what we have known all along.

I would say for the last 2-2.5 yrs, not sinc eye got here. His first year he wasn't that good, but most DL aren't great their first couple of years.
