Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe has issued a brief apology after he was arrested on a marijuana possession charge. “I apologize to the Hunt Family, Coach Reid, my teammates and Chiefs fans for the distraction I have caused the team this week,” Bowe said in a statement. “Due to the nature of the pending matter, I… Read more…

EXACTLY! The legal problems in reality are penny ante stuff. The big question is how will the NFL deal with this and how will DB's actions affect the Chief's performance as a team?
If I could get my fingers around his neck I would bang his head against a wall while yelling "How could you, you dumb fuc*?" But it happened and the Chiefs and us fans are just going to have to deal with it......and pray like hell that it doesn't hurt the team. That is all I really care about....that it doesn't hurt the team in the middle of this truly fine run we are having.
From what I have seen, DB is going to start against the damned donks Sunday night. If he catches 3 TDs and we win the game and he continues to perform like that through the rest of the season then as far as I am concerned he is forgiven. But if this stupidity on his part hurts the team in any way then regardless of the legal outcome I'll want his ash GONE!!!!

Just tossing something else in. There are conflicting reports as to whether DB admitted to having smoked some pot. Regardless of whether the reports are true or not, if he had not been mirandized then not many prosecutors are going to want take the case to trial with someone else claiming ownership of the pot. Any half-competent defense attorney could probably keep the admission from being introduced at trial. NOTHING of any major importance is going to happen on the legal aspect of this case.
The only real question is how much this whole mess is going to hurt the Chiefs. If this winds up hurting the Chiefs in this run they are making then Dwayne Bowe has got to go.

This is what I was thinking. They'll have to let the dust settle on this one.
The way I understand it from the first police report is this...Dwayne Bowe was flying in to Downtown airport, and that his buddies were picking him using Bowe's car. The scenario I can see is this...The buddies think to themselves, "Hey let's get stoned and watch airplanes while waiting for DB." Bowe arrives, sees MJ smoke rolling out of the car doors as he opens them, says "Never mind...I'll drive...". As he drives away, that's when he gets caught speeding (48 in 35mph zone, not exactly crime of the century but definitely enough to get a person pulled over.) Cop smells the smoke, searches the car, finds the weed (at one point one of the buddies raise their hands and say the backpack was his, not Bowe's), arrests Bowe (registered & insured owner of vehicle) & one buddy (I'm assuming the guy that claimed the backpack).
If that's the case, and they get a reciept for Bowe's flight or security camera footage showing Bowe coming into the airport, would back up the first part of that story. I'm not sure how accurate drug tests are, but would hope (for Bowe's sake) that secondhand smoke shows up differently than first-hand. Guessing that it won't.
If that was what happened, Bowe should've taken one look at the MJ smoke, thought about the paycheck from his team, and told Cheech and Chong "Tell you what. You guys can borrow my car for the night, have fun. I gotta take care of something." Then go rent a car, or call a limo/taxi service, and go straight home. Unfortunately, Bowe didn't.
If there is no ticket reciept, or footage of Bowe getting off an airplane in the airport...I'd go on the assumption that he, Cheech & Chong drove out to the airport, and got stoned watching airplanes. Bad life/career decision.

An interesting scenario you raise. But my real focus is on how this affects the team. If the team says F.I.D.O.!!!!! and DB really busts his butt to make it up to the team then I can write this all up as a second chance. But if it hurts the way this team has been playing then I say cut him out like a cancer.

I didnt realize that he was getting off a plane. If that part is true, then whether your story is the truth, it is the one easily arguable by the attorney, and there would be very little way to prove the MJ belonged to Bowe unless it was on his person. If it was in his pocket when the cop found it ... well, then he is screwed.
On a side note, the chances of getting a measurable amount of MJ (or THC since that is what they test) in your system from 2nd hand smoke is VERY hard. You would have to be hotboxing a car to do that. I dont have the articles on hand, but my old commanding officer had me look up the studies on that a few years ago when I was stationed with a Marine unit since a couple guys were claiming that someone was sitting next to them at a bar smoking and thats how they tested positive. Suffice to say after the colonel explained that to them, they decided to plead guilty instead of taking it to a court martial.
So as long as they rolled the windows down for a while while driving, there is likely to be very little if any THC in his system, even if they were smoking right next to him. Likely not enough to prove that he was smoking.

Thanks jap - figured someone out there could shed some more light on that. Since that's the case, the video footage of the parking lot would also tell a story - If Bowe got in the car, drove off in a couple of minutes, that's one thing. If it shows him, Cheech & Chong sitting in the car for an hour or so, THEN taking off...That's another. With the weather in KC getting colder I doubt if he had the windows down as he drove off.
Have any of you been to Riverside Missouri. You have to intentionally exit the interstate to get there. I live nearby and everyone I have talked to about this says the same thing. Why was he in riverside and the only reason is get his supply. There is absolutely nothing in Riverside specially at midnight on Sunday to warrant Bowe to intentionally go to Riverside. Now I am not gonig to say Riverside is completely WT as there is a very nice part of it next to Park Hill South, but the heart of Riverside is lower income housing and small businesses. The other parts of Riverside that would make more sense, such as maybe he has a house in the nice part of Riverside or maybe headed to Argosy Casino, wouldn't have required him to go through Riverside the way they did because Riverside has very low speed limits, and patrol the streets like they are constantly searching for someone. He could have stayed on the interstate and took other exits and immediately hit those other sections.
I can't wait to see if he passed a Drug Test.

Yes, that's a good question. Downtown airport is not that far away from Riverside, but think at that time of night it'd be easier to cut towards downtown and hookup with the interstate there.
Another question is this...Why wasn't Bowe booked for a DUI ? All the reports I've seen so far just mentions the speeding and possession charges, not a DUI. Odd given the fact that the reason why the car was searched was becasue the officer smelled the MJ smoke.
