Default Clock management and lack thereof

I don't typically vent and generally try to stay positive but I have to get this off my chest. I don't remember anyone mentioning this yet, but the last two weeks I feel like Andy Reid has really mismanaged the clock late in the game. I don't recall the details from the SD game, but if memory serves correctly we called a timeout with several seconds left on the playclock late in the game that gave SD an extra 30 seconds or so to drive the length of the field for the win.

Lastnight, when the Chiefs were clearly in scoring position on 2nd down, Reid elects to pass the ball instead of running Jamaal Charles(our best player by the way) resulting in clock stoppage with 2:03 left. The much smarter play in 4 down territory would have been to run the ball and wind the clock down to 2:00. Instead we had to run another play. Even if we would have scored a TD on that horrendous 4th down play call, Peyton would have had nearly two minutes to put the Broncos in FG position. Considering he abused us routinely in the 2nd half, why give him that opportunity?

I've read comments from Philly fans in the past talking about the poor clock management skills of Andy Reid. I chalked those up to being comments made by bitter Andy Reid fans. Now I know better. Clock management errors at the MINIMUM aided our loss to SD. Clock management would likely have led to us getting beat by a FG against the Broncos even if Alex had completed the worst pass play ever designed for a 4th and Game situation. Don't even get me started on that 4th down play call. Give your damn QB a chance to make a play. Flat out embarrassing Andy. Andy should apologize to the tens of thousands of fans that spent a portion of their Christmas money to watch that incredibly thoughtless playcall. No read was even made, it was a timing route thrown into double coverage that should have been intercepted. Andy, you let your team down with that play call. You let your fans down with that play call. But most importantly you let Alex Smith down with that horrific playcall.

guess the hurry up is out of the question. on the last drive we scored how much time was wasted with the huddle while the clock's running down???

I have not missed an Eagle home game in 43 years. the last 14 under Reid were the most hurt full get use to it.

    You sir, are a fraud.

In the playoffs 9 out of 14 years.

    7 Division Championships.

    19 playoff games.

    10 playoff wins.

    1 Super Bowl appearance.

I lived in DC in the '80s and '90s back when the Scumskins used to beat the Iggles like redhead stepchildren. If the last 14 years were your most painful memories as an Iggles fan then you have a VERY SHORT MEMORY.

I too was kind of taken aback by his statement. Granted, that Andy doesn't always make the right decisions & I won't say he's a better coach than Dick Vermeil, but he has brought at least some stability to the Chiefs coaching staff & helped engineer a 'much better than anyone expected' turnaround in 2013.

Then there is all those games getting us to 9-0 that we completely ate up the clock and time management looked great.

The real issue is the defense. Rivers would not have scored in 20 seconds had the defense gone to a prevent instead of staying in man to man and while we had Peyton in many 3rd and longs. We continued to put Cooper and our seconday on an island with no pass rush.

I'm sure that Reid has his weak points. And I'm sure I will see a few "WTF ANDY?" comments on here for as long as he is our coach. But is anyone on this board really going to complain too much if he does as well in KC as he did in Philly? I think not.

Let's say Reid is here 10 years. If his record were about the same as it was in Philly that would mean....

5 AFC West Championships in those 10 years.

In the playoffs 6 or 7 of those 10 years.

    3 or 4 playoff wins

Perhaps one trip to the Super Bowl.

Would anybody here call that their most painful time as a Chiefs fan? I really doubt it.

Not saying I don't like Andy Reid. Just pointing out some questionable play calls and clock management the last few weeks. I'm an Andy Reid fan.

Coach......I wasn't "dissing" you. And Reid is NOT the second coming of Christ. He makes mistakes...lord knows I have made plenty......thank heavens I am not the Chiefs coach.....but Andy Reid is GOOD! IMO, better than just "good". He is a coach that just might maybe, possibly get us some playoff wins and even a shot at the big game. And as a long time Chiefs fan that is good enough for me. Just knowing we had a shot every year would be pretty special for me.
