Default Salary Cap, we arent as bad off as we thought ...

So according to profootballtalk's sources, the salary cap is going to be a lot larger than was expected, over 132 million. Currently we are sitting at ~125.5 mil and we have about 2.4 million that we didnt spend last year that we can roll over.

Assuming a cap of 132 million (which the cap may be larger), we would have almost 9 million to spend in FA/draft. PFT is suggesting the cap will be closer to 135 mil, meaning we would have closer to 12 mil to spend. That means we could possibly go after some bigger names for positions of need (FS/CB/WR).

Here may be the best site on the net for salary cap: http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Chiefs&Year=2014

According to them, they are estimating the cap to be $ 135,595,695 with the Chiefs having $ 6,792,444 in cap space.

If I recall correctly, the rookie pool for last year was around 4.6 M, but KC will spend less with no 2nd round pick to pay.

Last I heard the hated raiders will have something like $65 mil in cap space. I surely hope some contracts can be renegotiated to buy us some more cash for Reid and Dorsey to play with.

I have never thought we were Bad off when it comes to the cap. We just are not sitting on a bunch of money like we had been for seasons past. We are right there in the middle of the pack.

They have accurate info when documenting the contracts, but they are calculating the available cap space wrong. You only count the top 51 contracts, where it looks like over the cap is counting all. That is about a 6 mil difference, which accounts for the difference between the 2 cap space estimates.

jap1, they show both top 51 and total, and I think they did make an error in reporting at the top of the page (as did I). As it stands, Top 51 contracts are worth $122,083,251 and dead money is $3,505,823, putting us in the neighborhood of 125,589,074. So, it looks like cap space is close to 10 M. At least that's what I'm looking at. Add in the 2.4 million rollover and your estimate is damn close at 12.4 M.
