The Chiefs spent Tuesday watching a lot of players walk out the door. On Wednesday, they added a couple of players to the roster. Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the Chiefs have signed veteran linebacker Joe Mays to a two-year, $6 million deal and agent Andy Simms announced his client Jeff Linkenbach has also…

I like both signing. The just filled holes that we were needing depth/competition with a possibly high reward for little risk. Both players are equal to the talent we lost but cheaper. Joe Mays is a hard hitting LB who frustrated me when he was a Donkey.

You just want to complain about FA don't you. Did you even read who the players were. Likenbach is oline. He is a lot like G. Schwartz be a versatile player who can play Guard and Tackle. He is not guaranteed starter but he will compete for it and give the team good depth.

For those wondering, the contracts we signed for these guys are very team friendly. Mays was signed for 2 mil this year and 4 mil next year. None of this years is guaranteed and only 1 million guaranteed next year. So basically if Nico Johnson steps up, we could cut Mays with no dead money. A brilliant contract.

Linkenbach is a guy who can play anywhere on the line but C and only signed a one year $900k contract and only $150k is guaranteed. Most likely he is only going to be depth, but his versatility means we only need to keep him and someone who can play center on the active roster on game days.

These are clearly well thought out signings by Dorsey.

I love that he isn't getting into the bidding wars with other teams and signing players for what he thinks their worth, not what the player thinks they are worth.

Good post! I hate some of the losses we've had in free agency, but in the end it's all about the salary cap and we couldn't afford to keep them. I guess it all comes down to I will trust Reid/Dorsey until I have a good reason not to. I was pretty happy with them last year and while I can't claim to know their plan, I'll take it on faith that they have a good one. As far as I am concerned, with last year's turnaround they earner at least 2-3 more years.
