Notes: The NFL has reduced the amount of time to make each pick in the first round from 15 minutes to 10.
This year, the prospective draftees are permitted to select their own "Walk up" music. That should be interesting!

The Houston Texans are on the clock.

Get him in that locker room with Sean Smith and Eric Berry and let's see what happens to him.

Thats says hes not good at man to man so thats not good. Thats what we like to play unless they want him at safety.

Any pick in this draft for Flowers is a loss. Flowers is a Chief -- this year.

We've seen with these two picks that Dorsey is not drafting on immediate need. Maybe this kid plays FS, maybe he plays CB. He seems a little raw much like Dee Ford. Like Ford, he will be groomed for 2015, not immediate impact when Flowers is released.

His dimensions are amazing. His height-speed ratio is off of the charts. When I saw that combo I thought of one of my old school favs, Dale Carter.

I like what KC has done. Peeps have to accept this will be a down year tho. 2015 could be amazing.

And how did Man coverage work out for us against good passing teams (like the Broncos) last year?

Ah. but what if we moved to more of a 4-3 Tampa-2/cover-2 defense? That defense severely limits yards after the catch and relies on heavy pressure from the front 7 to force QBs into throwing the ball away or making mistakes. BUT that defense only works if you can create pressure from your front 4. We just added a 4-3 DE in Dee Ford! With Ford, Poe and Walker (all 3 capable of sacking the QB) on the line with Devito, and Hali, Johnson and Houston at linebacker we can generate enough pressure to make a cover-2 defense work.

The Bears had great success with this defense when they had Julius Peppers, Henry Melton, Israel Idonije and Corey Wooten on the DL and Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs as two of the 3 LBs. I don't know if the Chiefs LBs are quite THAT good, but they aren't far off from there.

I'm not saying we abandon the 3-4, but along with our standard nickel and dime packages, the cover 2 would give us another option, and I think we are getting the personnel to do it effectively. Doesn't Sutton have experience coaching a 4-3 defense?

    I'm not sayin' ... I'm just sayin'.

As I have said before I don't follow college ball so for the most part I am not qualified to get real specific about individual picks. But right now we have picked two defensive players. One who gets after opposing QBs and another who gets after opposing receivers. I can't object too much to the logic of what Dorsey is doing. So far.....pretty happy with our picks.

The tampa 2 defense is obsolete in the nfl now cuz offenses jist picks them apart now. So no.

The cover two is dead. For arguments sake...

The Chiefs cannot get to the QB with a front four on this roster in a basic set. Dee Ford has no chance of flourishing as a 43 DE. Teams will run over him much like they did DT when the idiots in charge tried to make him a 43RE (see AFC championship 1993). He can only excel in a 34.

Devito is a waste in a C2-43 formation and, quietly, he is a very solid player.

And what happens to Houston, um, our best player, in a cover two? He's not a DE either. Do you want to watch Houston chase RB, TE and WR in coverage all day?

The Chiefs are best built for 34 in their base. No need to rock the boat. This defense is closer to the unit we watched the first half of the season than the second. It ain't happening now though. We need a pass rush presence at LE -- unless a "big" Hali is the answer.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that they went Defense with the first 2 picks & I won't be surprised if they take at least two more with the 4 picks they have on day 3. The Defense got lit up way too much in the 2nd half of the season.

I think reid thinks he can make our offense work with the players we have. Hes more concerned about the defense.

This is a theory, but ... Hal Sutton is an idiot. He learned enough from Rex Ryan to employ a very good 34 defense in "good weather". When the weather turned rough, unlike his mentor, he was not good enough to "weather the storm", and make adjustments. He was a failed DC before. I think he's not much better today -- a fraud.

Sadly, I have never had faith in "Shallow Hal" and have seen nothing to change that. Hire Wade Phillips as DC ASAP!
