I'd pass on going 4-3. 4-3's are great at stopping the run; With the league rules favoring the passing game, and competeting in a division with Manning and Rivers, would much rather us stick with the 3-4.
It would take a season or two to transition over, getting the right players and such
I just wondered always trying to think of how to improve the team. I've tried and tried to get my high school team to run the veer on offence and a 4-2-5 on defence has always intrigued me. I'm surprised more teams in the NFL don't run a base defence of 4-2-5 GIVEN how its a passing league now. I would think that would be awesome as a base dwfence .
In obvious passing situations, we run a form of 4-2-5. We well sometimes use Hali and Houston as DEs, with Poe and Bailey as DTs. We then have mauga and Mays at ilb, and add in a nickel back.
I've even seen us put Houston at one of those ilb spots and add in another DL.
I think this is why it hurts us so much to have lost Berry in the run game. He was the DB who could play the lb spot so we would have 5 dbs, with one playing a hybrid ilb/ss. Abdullah and Parker have been playing that role, just not as well.
