The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly visiting with free agent C Tim Barnes and working out Kansas State WR Tyler Lockett. Here's another player they'll be visiting in the second wave of free agency: WR Brandon Tate.

Tate, a 2009 third round pick, spent his first two seasons with the New England Patriots and his last four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. His most productive receiving season came in 2010 when he had 432 receiving yards with the Patriots. Last season for Cincinnati, Tate had 17 receptions for 193 yards. He was the Bengals kick and punt returner the last four seasons which is a role on the Chiefs held by Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas.

I'm not sure exactly what has the Chiefs interest piqued here but they are overhauling their receiver position this year so more receivers are always needed and I'm sure special teams coach Dave Toub would take a productive punt or kick returner too.

Interesting. We seem to be trying to address the WR receiver problem through free agency rather than through the draft. Be interesting to see how they spend the draft picks. Still hoping for at least 1 WR.

This is just a low risk, low dollar, kick the tire type of player. He can't be any worse than Hammond or Hemmingway. At worste he is camp fodder.

The same article said they were working out Tyler Lockett, so I do think they are looking for a WR in the draft. Maybe not with their #1, but most likely top 3 picks.

If you can't put up big numbers with Brady as you're QB something is up

To be fair, no one with the exception of Randy Moss, has every put up "big" numbers with Brady because he spreads the ball around so well. Now with that said, I agree that 432 yards with Brady is also not very impressive, but it has to be taken in perspective with all the WRs that Brady has ever had. In 2010, he also would have been playing with Welker and Branch, who only had 848 and 706 yards respectively.
