    Default Official Draft Day Thread

Since nobody has started the official draft day thread, as of yet, I'll do it here.

Post your responses to the draft as it transpires here.

With 10 picks, this is a great opportunity for Dorsey/Reid to bring a stable of good football players to the Chiefs team. Let's get it done.

Go over here to follow the draft live if you wish:

Yeah, he was worth taking a flyer on in Round 6. Surprised that he didn't go earlier.
Sounds like he could be one of the greatest steals from this draft. But that is supposed to be what Dorsey does well so I could well believe it. Fingers crossed and hoping for a HUGE SCORE!!!

Rakeem Nunez-Roches was a guy that finished 6th in the SEC in total tackles in 2014. Pretty good for any D-Lineman. Contrast Dorsey's 6th round selection of this guy, to Pigoli's selecting Tyson Jackson at #3 overall in 2009 and then handing him a 5-yr, 25 million dollar contract last year down in Atlanta. You can see Jackson's career numbers right HERE. Do take note of the 16 games Jackson started last year.

Any objective observer can easily see the difference between a real football GM and a politician that urinates on his own head and tells himself it's raining when they do this apples-to-apples comparison.

Tyson Jackson was really no better than a 6th round pick, but Pigoli tries to convince himself otherwise. Bailey and Howard have already surpassed Jackson, and it shouldn't surprise anyone if Rakeem Nunez-Roches does, as well.

You can't always judge a 3-4 DE by their stats. I still don't strongly disagree with the selection of Jackson. 3-4 DEs in the system that we were running, needed to redirect the run to the ILB and eat up blockers. Did Jackson never live up to his draft status, yes, but he is actually one of the better performing people chosen in the top ten of that draft, even though he sucks. That having been said, Pioli did suck. Jackson probably would have been a better selection in the 2nd round, unfortunately there weren't many others worthy of the number 3 pick.

Ahh, but you can judge them by their stats. Go look at the stats of JJ Watt, for example. That #3 overall pick should have been spent on Tackle Eugene Monroe with Albert being kicked inside to Guard in 2009. The Chiefs O-Line was in shambles at that time, and Jackson did nothing to improve the Chiefs Defense.

The type of defense that Houston runs is different that what we ran. Watt uses different techniques and has different expectations. While Watt would still be a beast in our defense, he would not have the same numbers here.

Sorry, but there ain't no way possible to substantiate that. That's an unknown commodity. Besides, it's highly doubtful that Bob Sutton wouldn't turn Watt loose, just like they do in Houston, if Watt were in KC. Another example is Muhammad Wilkerson. Far better player than Jackson. I could go on and on.

Point is, that Tyson Jackson was a major reach at #3 overall in 2009, and has been average at best (most of the time mediocre), and no better than a 4th rounder at best, and that's being kind. The new regime was prepared to can Jackson in 2013, if he didn't take a pay cut.

Ultimately, we have a better coaching staff now than we did then and they get more from players. Raw talent is one thing, but it still takes a top-notch coaching staff to turn college talent into a top-flight performer in the NFL. It's not just Reid....it's all the guys he brought with him. They just plain get more out of players than the previous coaching staffs did. With the wrong coaching staff you could have the best talent in the NFL and still go 8-8. Dorsey has to find the talent, then the coaching staff has to motivate them, train them and use them so their strengths are maximized and their weaknesses minimized. An 8 cylinder engine with only 4 cylinders firing will never be as good or efficient as a 4 cylinder engine performing at it's peak. A lot of good talent get's wasted in the NFL by poor coaching.

I think we are agreeing that Jackson never lived up to the #3 pick, just to different degrees. Also, I just realized that Crennel is now the DC in Houston, and Watt's performance hasn't changed. Unless Crennel has changed his defensive style significantly in how he uses DEs, I'm incorrect to say you cannot compare the stats.

Tyson Jackson was a really vanilla pick at where he was drafted. Also not convinced that the head coach (Haley) was 100% onboard with that pick, which never bodes well for the player. TJ did develop into a good run stuffer, but you can find lineman like him left and right in the third round.

In hindsight, Jackson was a wasted 3rd rd pick. But not just in hindsight. I mean, Pioli drafts a 4-3 DE and Haley switches to a 3-4. What a joke that 3 years was.
