NFL playoff picture: Chiefs are the 6th seed with Bills loss to Patriots, would face Broncos

The Buffalo Bills loss to the New England Patriots means that the Kansas City Chiefs are now the No. 6 team in the NFL playoff picture. It means nothing right now of course because the playoffs don't start today but it's a nice feeling for the Chiefs who started 1-5 and now sit at 5-5 after winning four straight.

IF the playoffs started today, the Chiefs would be visiting the ... Denver Broncos. Indeed, a matchup of the January 1998 playoff game where Tony Gonzalez was in bounds the Broncos won, 14-10. The Chiefs split with the Broncos including a 16-point victory in Denver for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are much more likely to earn a Wild Card berth, rather than winning the division. Denver is up three games in the division with just six games to play. Don't count on winning the AFC West. The Wild Card though, that's very possible. In fact, it's likely to happen.

In the NFL playoffs, the first and second seeds would receive a bye. On Wild Card weekend, the No. 3 seed would host the No. 6 seed while the No. 4 seed would host the No. 5 seed. The Chiefs best bet would probably be the No. 5 seed where they can play whoever the AFC South trots out. Of all the scenarios, playing the Colts / Texans / whoever wins the AFC South sounds the most appealing. There is, however, some history with the Colts....

    AFC Playoff Picture, Week 11

    1. New England Patriots (10-0)
    2. Cincinnati Bengals (8-2, 7-1 in AFC)
    3. Denver Broncos (8-2, 4-2 in AFC)
    4. Indianapolis Colts (5-5, head-to-head win over HOU)
    5. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-4)
    6. Kansas City Chiefs (5-5, 4-2 AFC)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    7. Houston Texans (5-5, 4-3 AFC, head-to-head losses to IND & KC, win over NYJ)
    8. Buffalo Bills (5-5, 5-4 in AFC, head-to-head win over NYJ)
    9. New York Jets (5-5, 4-4 AFC, head-to-head loss to HOU)
    11. Oakland Raiders (4-6, 4-3 AFC)
    12. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-6, 4-4 AFC, head-to-head win over MIA)
    10. Miami Dolphins (4-6, 2-5 AFC, head-to-head loss to JAX)
    13. Baltimore Ravens (3-7)
    14. Cleveland Browns (2-8, 2-6 AFC)
    15. San Diego Chargers (2-8, 1-5 AFC)
    15. Tennessee Titans (2-8, 0-6 AFC)

Lol! You sure did. And I didn't report the post for a rules infraction.

It's always great to have you posting in the forum and not just on the facebook group.

But everyone has to follow the rules ...

Certainly. But equally we are entitled to "bend" "fold" "stretch" and "mutilate" the rules a bit. Not "break them" just "adapt" them. Right? I mean HELL! Why can't I say "AH SHIP!!!!"?

This discussion of site rules reminds me a bit of the supreme court many years ago when they were asked to rule on pornography. Put whatever spin you want on it, they basically ruled that they had no clue what pornography was but they would know it when they saw it.....which to my mind is a pretty lax standard.

You can't swear because Coach, who created and owns this forum doesn't want you to swear. This forum is open to all people of all ages and sensibilities, and Coach wants it to be a site where people can come here and not feel offended or uncomfortable. That is HIS choice and our jobs as moderators is to make sure that people follow HIS rules.

When you register at ChiefsCrowd.com you indicate that you agree to the terms and conditions and will follow the rules. If you can't or won't follow the rules you won't be able to post here.

The Supreme Court was ruling on Constitutionally protected free speech based on their interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. They weren't ruling on what you can or can't do in the Chiefs Crowd forum. The 2nd amendment doesn't apply here. Membership here is voluntary and conditional.

If you don't like the rules you are welcome to start your own forum. I would be among the first to join, in fact, and I hope you would continue to post here, as well.

As to what you can or can't say, I think everyone knows where the lines are. If they can't say it on American Broadcast television, you can't say it here.

You are also not allowed to bypass the swear filters by doing things like putting a space in the word (as Canada did) using a "$" instead of an "S" or replacing one or two letters with "*"s. We have been pretty tolerant of these infractions, especially in the Game Day Thread where emotions can understandably run very high in the heat of the moment, but technically they are also (suspend-able) rule violations.

I know many of you have foul mouths and are in the habit of cursing frequently in your daily lives. That's your problem, not ours. In conversation we often speak off the cuff without censoring ourselves. An internet forum is different. Before you hit <Submit Reply> you have a chance to re-read what you typed, reorganize, reword, insert and delete to your hearts content. Anyone who swears here is doing it deliberately and choosing to violate the rules.

I know this post sounds harsh and I don't mean it to be. Personally, I don't care if people swear or not. I'm in a couple of forums that allow the "F" word, the "C" word and aggressive personal attacks. Pretty much the only things that will get you in trouble are racial and sexual preference slurs. But I know I will be exposed to that kind of language and potential abuse when I go there and I choose to be there.

The mods here are expected to enforce the rules. Some of you may think that stinks, but that is just the way it is.

Because the Ft. Benning School for Wayward Boys kind of ingrained a slightly more aggressive manner of speech in my brain. Now please don't get me wrong. I don't want a free-for-all here with F-bombs, S-bombs, C-bombs etc tossed around all the time. Wouldn't like that at all. But if we keep things to words that the average 3rd grader already uses daily then isn't that enough self-sensorship? I don't mean to be argumentative or combative. NOT MY INTENTION AT ALL. I'm just asking what I consider to be reasonable questions. I mean c'mon..."AH SHIP!" "OH FUDGE!" Isn't that reasonable?

Roy....you know full well I pretty much abide by Coach's rules. I haven't had a "Warning" since 2011. Do I "push" or "stretch" the rules from time to time? OF COURSE I DO! I'm an American Male so that goes without saying.

Agreed, but let's be honest...the rules are not particularly specific. While I've not reviewed the rules recently, I don't believe there is a specific list of banned words. And even if there was, I question if "ship", "fudge", "hell" or "damn" would be included. I *believe* that "hell" and "damn" can be found in the Bible. Is Chiefscrowd more strict than the Bible? "Ship" and "Fudge"....those words can be found in any 3rd grade textbook. Good enough for 3rd grade textbook, good enough for me.

First, my remark about the Supreme Court was strictly "tongue in cheek". Y'know...funny haha? Second, the 2nd Amendment applies to firearms and not speech. If being a part of this forum requires me to give up my rights under the 2nd amendment then let me know as that would require me to resign immediately.

I've not the time for that and I believe that every Tom, Dic and Harry (did you notice that? I avoided the filter!!! OMG!!!!) starting their own forum is detrimental to the overall effort. I post here regularly and do a "drive by" from time to time in Connie Jo's facebook page, but here is where I come to talk Chiefs.

I thought I did too, but your post makes me question my understanding.

I don't watch American Broadcast Television enough to know what that means. In fact other than Chiefs streams I probably don't watch 5 hours of TV per year.

I don't play those cheap games. When I want to cuss I get a little more creative...."ship", "fudge", "female dog".

I DON'T swear here. Or at least I don't believe I use any words here that can be defined by a reasonable person as swearing.

C'mon Roy....you know I don't do any of that kind of crap. That stuff is for amateurs.

CCF, I don't have any problem with the words you use here and neither do any of the other mods. That is why you haven't been warned since 2011. While I was responding to your post I was directing my post more at some of the people here who more aggressively try to skirt the rules.

    Of course it is.

    .

Um, yeah ... It's rather difficult to provide a list of baned words on a forum that would censor every word on the list. The list would be nothing but asterisks! If you're really not sure, try using the word and if it comes up all asterisks, you will know that it is one of the banned words and you can edit the post to replace it with a word that is allowed.

But you obviously do know what words are banned because you run right up to the line, but don't cross it. "Hell" and "damn" obviously aren't on the banned word list because they aren't censored in the posts. Of course, you can also use "heck" and "darn" and still make exactly the same point, but you don't have to.

Sorry. Obviously I was referring to the 1st Amendment which covers freedom of speech. There has been so much talk about gun control laws in the wake of the San Bernardino terrorism attacks lately. I just had that on my mind when I was typing at 5:00 in the morning and slipped up.

Agreed. Like I said, most of my post wasn't directed at you specifically but at forum members in general. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear.

Not at all, and I knew my post was coming across harsher than it was meant to be. I was just trying to offer some more specific clarification of the rule. It appears, however that I may have created more confusion, rather than cleared it up.

You might get a kick out of this:
