Kansas City linebacker Donnie Edwards says he has a new perspective on the word "hero" after firefighters and National Guardsmen saved his home.
Edwards played with the San Diego Chargers for five years before rejoining the Chiefs.
He's a San Diego native and returned there during the Chiefs bye week when he heard about the fires in Southern California.
His neighborhood was under mandatory evacuation, and he and his wife waited in Los Angeles for permission to return.
When he got the OK, his home and contents were fine -- thanks to the firefighters, the National Guard and a lucky shift in the California winds.
But many other homes in his neighborhood were gone.
He even found a fire truck in his driveway from the Oakland area -- just after the Chiefs had beaten the Raiders.
