    Default Chiefs sign lineman

The Kansas City Chiefs have landed a new starting offensive tackle.
The team on Wednesday agreed in principle to a five-year deal with former Browns lineman Mitchell Schwartz, a source familiar with the negotiations told NFL Media's Rand Getlin.
Chalk it up as a solid get for the Chiefs, who needed help along a front five that just saw right tackle Donald Stephenson sign with the Broncos. Schwartz, 26, is a distinct upgrade over veteran Jah Reid.
With guard Jeff Allen also departing for the Texans, the Schwartz signing is almost against the grain for a Chiefs team that typically allows veteran linemen to bolt as free agents in order to replace them with less-expensive, younger blockers.
Schwartz has started 64 straight games since being selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Last season was his best to date, as he graded out as the NFL's sixth-best tackle, per Pro Football Focus. Of course, he's not the only football player in the family:
So proud of my brother, @MitchSchwartz72 on his deal with the @Chiefs! Went through some nonsense today, and ended up in a great spot. @NFL

Sounds like that is less than the Brown had offered before they pulled the offer. Starting to look like a pretty good deal!

Well looks like the Browns messed around with him and upset him a little. He graded higher than any OL on the Chiefs last year. The said on the radio today that Fisher was the closest but was 6 point behind him.

Historically though signing top tier talent at OL hasn't worked out for us. It is usually the second chance contracts that worked. Bad signings. John Welbourne, Kyle Turley, Eric Winston, Benn Grubbs.....

this signing wont turn out that way seek, he is a stud and will be for many more years, according to PFF he graded 2nd among RT last year and the 6th rated overall tackle with only 11 QB knockdowns

We'll find out. That's for sure.

Seek is correct in one thing....A lot of big name free agents don't do so well when they switch teams....though some do....Maclin. Hopefully Schwartz will be one of the guys whose talents move well.

We would be wise to invest in 1 or 2 guards in the draft also since both tackles are superb now
