The Kansas City Chiefs cornerback situation is coming together. We think.
The Chiefs entered the offseason trying to figure out who would play opposite Marcus Peters and who would be the nickel corner. They have their answers for now.

Reid says Steven Nelson is leaving OTAs as the nickel and Phillip Gaines will get first crack at outside CB.
    • This was probably our best guess at how things would work out when we started this offseason but now we have Andy Reid actually saying it.
This does NOT mean that anyone has won a job. We still have training camp to go through which is probably a better gauge of these players than in the shorts they've worn so far this offseason. Every year there's a position battle that changes after they get into pads at training camp. But I would rather be the top guy coming out of OTAs than not be, you know? So there's some meaning there ... I'm just not sure how much.
The Chiefs also have three rookie corners to work in (with one of them likely playing safety). There are going to be roster cuts after training camp at which point other veterans will be on the market. If the Chiefs get their cap situation figured out - hi, Eric Berry! - I would keep an eye on a veteran corner.

Depth-wise, I like what the Chiefs have in the secondary. I just hope the starters are good.

I actually like Gaines as do many people he just has to stay healthy, Peters and Gaines on the outside, Nelson in the Slot and Russell and White as floater backups, and move Murray to Safety with Berry and Parker

I'm not sure about Gaines only because we just haven't seen much of him. He's going to have to stay healthy this year

He never looked that good to me he always seemed out of position or like moves like a robot or as they say stiff in the hips. not saying he looked bad but something about him always looked off to me. I dont think hes as has much agility i guess.

He probably has the quickest feet and smoothest hip on the team

I thought he looked like Eric Warfield on the field.

I haven't seen that on the field Peter does allow separation that gets him beat but so did Gaines. At least Peter closed those gaps to make plays or interception. I mean I don't think he sucks, but coming off a injury is a big concern.
