    Default Andy Reid.....

It's a slow time for us Chiefs fans so I'm going to talk about the man Chiefs fans either love or love to hate. The 900 pound gorilla in the room....Andy Reid.

Lets be honest...like all humans, he has his faults. Sometimes his clock management leaves me SMFH and wondering WTH were you thinking Andy? And then there are those 1 yard passes on 3rd and long....WTF OVER!

But with all that said, I must also mention his good points. Regular season record over 3 years 31-17. Made the playoffs 2 out of 3 years. Broke the curse. Only 1-2 in the playoffs but the 2 losses came by a combined 8 points. And the Colts loss never should have been a loss anyway. I can't blame Reid for that one. We scored 44 points in that game (the most we have ever scored in a playoff game) so I can't blame that one on Reid. And the Houston win was our first ever shutout of a playoff opponent.

Further...Everybody here will admit that when we were 1-5 last year we had all given up on the season. JC was out for the season. Our goose was cooked. All done. Stick a fork in it. Just the truth. But Reid didn't give up on the season. And with Reid's leadership the team didn't give up on the season. We proceeded to run off 10 straight wins, make the playoffs and win our first playoff game in over 20 years. Thank you Andy Reid.

Reid isn't the best coach in NFL history, but he is a damned good coach and despite his flaws we are damned lucky to have him. Thank you Clark Hunt.

Lol i hate oth mannings though.
Dunno if either of the Mannings have the coaching "gene", but I will risk offending everyone and say I'd have no problem with us giving one of them a try as coach once Reid retires. Peyton isn't our enemy anymore. Not so long ago we all wanted him to come to KC. He become an enemy but he's not anymore. Eli never was.

Yep on both counts....and if I can believe what I read, Vermeil encouraged Reid to come to the Chiefs. Reid has broken the curse and IMHO he is the best chance we've had at a Super Bowl since the Montana era and that of course had more to do with Montana than with Shotty. In no particular order, I think Stram, Shotty, Vermiel and Reid are far and away the best HCs we have ever had.

Dick Vermeil was just another in a long line of failures at the head coaching position.

He won a SB with the Rams because management didn't allow him free rein, and they made the personnel decisions with minimal input from Dick.

Given free rein in KC, and a strong voice in personnel, he failed to advance to the playoffs in 3 of his 4 years, and fielded some historically bad defenses.

As much as I hated Marty, he was easily the 2nd best coach in this team's history, though I think Marv Levy would have been there had he been given an opportunity to continue to build.

In short, Dick was an overrated hack.

I have such a "soft spot" for Marty. Understand I was born in 65' Most of the 70's, 80's we were a complete joke! Marty came in & righted the ship. I look @ Marty like Ronald Reagan after the Carter administration. Yes...We didn't win a SB, but I loved Sunday's! Just remember where we were a few years ago. Give the Big Boy a chance.
    KC Chiefs fan since 1965!

KCMASS....You are dead right about Marty. He made Chiefs football fun again! And I go back to being born in '57. DV did too for a while. And Reid is now. While some of Reid's play-calling and clock management leaves us shaking our collective heads we're having winning seasons, either making the playoffs or at least in the hunt right until the last Sunday of the season and we broke the curse. Chiefs football is FUN under Reid! And last season was a MASTERPIECE! We started 1-5 and somehow Reid held the team together and we went on a rampage and won 10 in a row, got us to the playoffs and won a playoff game. When we were 1-5 there wasn't anybody here that thought the season could be saved. Not even me. Especially not with JC down for the season. Any of us that have been football fans for any length of time know that just like the fans, the players can give up on a season. BUT OUR CHIEFS DIDN'T! And I think that is a real tribute to Andy Reid. Somehow he kept the team from giving up on the season and for that Reid deserved a lot of credit.
