To start things off it appears Mark Sanchez only has a slight lead over Trevor Siemian and that Paxton Lynch in no way is threatening for the starting job, he has struggled from what I've read and heard.

Catch Rule might have just been made worse

NFL to refs on catches: 'When in doubt, make it incomplete'

No rule in the NFL has come under more scrutiny in recent years than the ruling of exactly what constitutes a catch. To that end, the league has attempted to clean up the language of the rule and make it easier to understand exactly what needs to happen for a catch to be ruled exactly that — a catch.

While the NFL attempted to clean it up, many fans weren’t buying it.

However, the people that really matter are those playing the game, coaching the game and officiating the game. To those groups, this new rule has apparently had the intended affect and made things much clearer.

That appears to especially be the case for NFL officials, as ESPN is reporting a very clear standard has emerged in how to look at what is and isn’t a catch.

In the new rule, there are three elements that make up a catch — possession of the ball, two feet inbounds and enough time to become a runner. While the first two are obvious, the last one is still where there is room for interpretation.

The NFL officials are the ones trying to clarify that interpretation, and met this last Friday when ESPN’s Kevin Siefert was able to attend and get some clarification.

What emerged was actually a very simple standard — if a play is “bang-bang” and the runner hasn’t made two steps as a runner, rule the play incomplete.

“When it’s bang-bang, rule it incomplete," NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino told the officials. "When in doubt, make it incomplete.”

Siefert had a great example of exactly what Blandinois talking about:

To support that directive, Blandino showed a series of plays from the 2015 season. In each case, he asked if they were “bang-bang.” First up was a pass to Tennessee Titans receiver Harry Douglas in Week 11. Douglas had the ball in his hands; but when viewed at full speed, he lost it almost immediately, as Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Aaron Colvin tackled him.

“Was that bang-bang?” Blandino asked the officials.

    “Yes,” they replied.

    “OK, so it’s incomplete.”

You could break down the play in slow motion and see that Douglas secured the ball with two hands while his feet were on the ground and in bounds, achieving the first two criteria of the catch rule. Then you could see that he did not become a runner, because he did not take two full steps with possession.

Blandino would go on to describe it best by saying that “bang-bang” or figuring out if two steps were taken is easier. If it is the latter, look for officials to rule the play incomplete.

That standard seems pretty easy, and as long as it is applied consistently, everyone involved in the game will be better off.

So will the fans, especially because nothing has driven them more crazy over the years the inconsistent application of the catch rule. Let’s just hope that Friday’s talk by Blandino is applied by those on the field on Sunday’s.

Then this damn fool, Mr. Travis Kelce

You’ll have something to watch during the Kansas City Chiefs bye week this year. Travis Kelce’s new reality show, Catching Kelce, will premiere on E! on Wednesday, October 5 at 8 p.m. (Arrowhead Time), according to a press release. The first episode is 90 minutes and will include Kelce’s brother Jason (center for the Eagles) and his manager.

This press release explains how the show works:

In the supersized premiere episode, 50 eligible women will assemble at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum where they will have only 60 seconds to make a lasting first impression on one of the NFL’s most sought after bachelors. From there, Travis will have to quickly narrow the dating pool from 50 women down to 20 before they are able to move into their lavish Los Angeles mansion. Once moved in, Travis and his boys will be deciding who stays in the house and who is sent home packing. However, there’s a twist; in each episode, Travis will pick one girl who goes on the all-access group date and it’s her decision to strategically choose which other girls will go on the date with her. At the end of the group date, Travis decides who he wants to take on the coveted VIP date. The debate becomes: do you pick your friends and keep those loyalties strong, or choose the “weakest” contenders to make yourself stand out? Lines will be drawn and newly formed friendships will be tested as the women pick and choose who gets the extra time with this quirky, fun-loving football superstar. At the end of each episode, Travis will have to eliminate some of the girls and send them back to their home states.

The show filmed this offseason and he did pick a winner. So, there you have it. I’ll probably be watching. At least some of it.

Pending seeing how the reception rule is enforced, I don't have a problem with it so long as it is uniformly enforced.
