Did anyone ever see this? I was born in 82, been watching kc since 1988, I never knew he said this, I just remember how sad I was when he resigned. So he's saying leaving if was the biggest mistake he ever made in football.

marloweopatchiefs....I had never seen that before. Thank you for posting it! Marty was a great coach but somehow--dunno why--he just couldn't take that final step. We had a lot of fun years with him and I'll always be grateful to him for that.

His only mistake was not keeping Gannon as the starter. That's the only thing I hold against him. Everything else was players play. But making the grbac starter again was a coaches decision.

I simply love the man. We were utter crap as a NFL team & he brought us back. I'm 50 & in the early 90's I was so proud to be a Chiefs fan. I still believe that 1990 was our Super Bowl year. Losing to Miami in the Wild Card game crushed me. Yes...Not keeping Gannon (my Alma Mater Delaware) was a HUGE mistake.

I think most of not keeping Gannon was Peterson's fault. He had signed Grbac at the beginning of the season, before he was hurt, to a big contract and he was the starter and back then you did not lose your starter job because of injury and I think Peterson put pressure on Marty to put Grbac back in so he wold not lose face.

I think he left mostly because of Carl. Just my opinion from rumors I have heard, but Marty was upset Carl had too much power and was not allowing him the personnel Marty wanted.

I also think he hind sight,in stating it was the biggest mistake of his life, was realizing that it as no better in Washington or San Diego. Even though Marty did build a good team in San Diego.

I like Marty. He built good teams wherever he went. Look at what happened to his teams after he left.

He was a good coach but he was the king of sitting on the smallest lead. If we got up by 2 points, next 3 possessions would be 3 and outs. We wouldn't move a yard on offense until the opponents went ahead. It's the whole reason he always lost in the playoffs. He did it everywhere else, too. San Diego got a taste of his feckless coaching and dumped him even though he was the best coach they'd had in 20 years.
