Wink A few observations about KC/Houston game

    Not in any particular order:

1- We walked into a hornets' nest. Is anyone surprised? These guys were swept, and embarrassed by us in the playoffs last year. They had this game marked on the calendar.

2- A good indication of the above was their D. Historically Romeo's defensive philosophy has been bend-but-don't-break. Today they were aggressive, swarming, and especially attacking the ball. BTW, they have very very good players on D. JJ Watt was his old self, but beside him there are a couple of them who would nicely fill our holes in our D to make us a Super Bowl winning D.

3- Our O was very disappointing and the adjustment I expected at half never came. When Maclin dropped thatwide open easy to catch long ball in the first quarter our O lost self confidence. Maclin over all (except for the last drive) had a flat day. Maybe he was not all there due to last week's head injury. We will see next week.

4- Two of my favorite offensive players pretty much disappeared. Kelce and Conley. Conley was not even mentioned until he dove for a bad pass from Alex late in the 3rd.

5- With their D so aggressive we also helped them by constantly shooting ourselves in the foot by drive killing fumbles, holding call, etc. at the most inopportune times.

6- Our D has my respect. Except for the first series they manned up all game. They should not be allowed to be in that position all game.

7- Speaking of D, I think Marcus Peters is going through a bit of a sophomore slump. Nothing really dramatic yet and I think he can reverse that trend this very season. He just needs to be a little smarter with his temper.

8- Following up on 7, when he was called for taunting, M-Pete had been abused by Fuller and Hopkins with the consent of the officials. They constantly grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him down and were never once called for holding or OPI. They really got under his skin and caused his reaction. Again, he needs to mature up and stay cool in games like this.

9- Parker is an unsung hero. The man comes to play. He was a bust as a corner, but is coming on great as a safety, especially with the benefit of playing next to the great Eric Berry.

10- From what little they showed of the 'holding' by Nelson that nullified Hill's TD return, I have to question whether that would have been called against Denver, or New England in a game. It just did not look like that much of a hold.

11- I have always been a sucker for player names. I'm old enough to remember fearsome or at least nice and clean football names from Lanier, Lynch, Bell, Taylor, Hill, Okoye, to Hali, etc. Our new LB Justin March, had a good name in that sense until recently, until he decided to go with his hyphenated name March-Lilliard. That addition made it a little soft. Just sayin'. ;-)

12- I'm not too worried about losing this game by a mere TD. This could have been worse, but, given all the situations stacked against the Chiefs, it was a respectable enough performance. GO CHIEFS! The season is still young.

Part 1 agree 100% They wanted this one. They made the plays. They were fired up. It showed. We were flat and it showed. All that adds up to a loss. Everytime.

Part 8 This is a pet peeve of mine. It's not just something that happens to the Chiefs but across the NFL. Offensive Player pushes off if that holds them up any it's a flag on the defender? Makes no sense how about calling the offensive player for his push off. I will never understand why it's called that way. But it is what it is

Do you realize peters got called for the same thing jj watt doees with his finger. Plus he didnt do it a guys face. They need to look up the defenition up on taunting.

Also the refs screwed us on the kick off return. There wasnt no hold and they couldnt even say who it was. The refs clearly were biased towards houston with how the let hopkins grab peters helmet constantly.

My big thing is if this hurry offense seems to be good so why dont we play that way the whole game. The o plays with no urgency until its critical time. They neeed to open up the offense the whole game. But also to mny drops by wr.

To many drops. to many, fumbles to many snaps over the QBS head, to many poor throws, to many bad play calls, to many guys coming unblocked

I think that about sums it up.The offense from top to bottom was not good enough today.

Our offense was just plain flat. Looked like they were all hungover from last week's comeback celebration.

This game was basically The Perfect Storm. The Texans wanted revenge and they wanted it BADLY. Losing 30-0 at home in the playoffs is pretty damned embarrassing. Especially when at the end of the game the opposing teams fans are making more noise than your own home crowd fans. Combine that with our offense looking extrememly sloppy--I think they were still patting themselves on the back for last week's comeback--and you have a recipe for disaster. But a 7 point loss to a good team is no kind of disaster.

Maclin was just plain flat. Was it leftover from that illegal hit last week or was he just having a bad day? I dunno. I do know that he is a MUCH BETTER player than we saw this week.

For sure the fumbles and penalties were game-killers. As Reid said in his presser, you just can't do that in a league where parity is king. The Texans didn't really win that game. The Chiefs lost it with poor play. Sure, the Texans wanting this game real bad had a part in it, but had we played even vaguely mistake-free football we would have won.

All-in-all I completely concur with Frankenchief's comment #12. Damned shame we lost this game. We shouldn't have. But with all that went wrong with our offense and with how fired-up Houston was we put up a damned good fight. I don't see this game as cause for gloom and doom.

I don't know. I didn't think the Texans did anything to state they got revenge. I mean as bad as we played, we were still in that game. The Texans were average if you ask me, we just didn't want to win. We should have rolled them.

Yes. We should have rolled them. But it did seem to me that Houston was playing with "extra effort". That is why this loss doesn't worry me so much. They were going all out and we were killing ourselves. Under those circumstances I think losing by only 7 shows that we were the much better team. We just self-destructed.

This loss was cuz of undisciplined team. Fumbles, penalties, dropped balls. You cant fumble on the road and expect ro win. Plus reid needs to go more hurry up since thats the only time he can call the right plays. More downfield instead of all these screens.
