The Kansas City Chiefs first attempt at adding to their backfield will be running back CJ Spiller, who signed with the team today. The Chiefs announced the move.

Spiller has been in the league since 2010. He spent five seasons with the Bills then spent time with the Saints, Seahawks and Jets. His best season as a pro came in 2012 with the Bills when he had over 1,200 yards rushing and 459 yards receiving. He’s had more than 30 receptions in four of his NFL seasons which he’ll need to be able to do in Kansas City. Interesting signing although it’s been a few years since he’s been productive. Running backs don’t usually get better with age.
He’ll join Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West in the Chiefs backfield. It’s not likely that Knile Davis is back and we don’t know the future of Jamaal Charles. If Jamaal doesn’t play, it seems realistic Spiller makes the roster. We have a long way to go until September though.

The big question is what this means for the draft and JC.

I think it has to mean the end of JC in kc. Not enough room unless west will be cut.

West might be the odd man out. He disappeared this year.

Also i think they didnt want to use hill much in the backfield as much as they did so they might have brought spliier in for that role. I think the lack of west and speed out of the backfield made them use hill out of the backfield more than they wanted to. Ware was good but hes not a speedster. West also is more quick than fast himself.

This is interesting, indeed. Spiller does still have the speed to take it the distance. We'll have to wait and see.
