Clinton, McCain emerge as comeback winners in New Hampshire primary

WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Clinton pulled off an unexpected narrow victory in New Hampshire on Tuesday, dramatically rescuing her bid for the White House in a tense battle with Barack Obama.
Clinton, who's fighting to become the first woman in the Oval Office, mounted a surprisingly strong showing after bracing for a second defeat following her devastating third-place showing in Iowa.

Republican John McCain also nabbed a major comeback victory, putting him solidly back in his party's nomination race.
While Obama, vying to make history as the first black U.S. president, scored big among independents and voters between 18 and 24, Clinton attracted lower-income voters and seniors and did best among voters citing the economy as their top concern.
But a big factor for Clinton was women voters, who had gone over to Obama in large numbers in Iowa. Nearly half in New Hampshire were once again supporting her, while Obama got only a third.

We live in a society that has enjoyed the upward swing of the pendulum for so long now, the crises would be in what a great majority would be losing! Our society lives on credit and large government to decide things for them.

Look at the housing market for one..... wow everyone was so excited about the low interest rates... the prices of the housing market skyrocketed .... now watch the interest rates go up, the prices of housing will drop and people will be selling the farm to survive. They still have the credit cards to pay for.
I remember reading that if Americans started saving (the current avg is 0% per family) the economy would be in worse shape than it is.

That is hectic. I hope you were able to rest on Sundays (and watch the Chiefs play!)

I think Mort aired a few shows from Kansas City.

However Bush hasn't fought them much as he has only vetoed 1 or 2 bills in his entire Presidency. Also, every single bill that has gotten through has seemingly included more and more earmarks to get votes to approve the bill. This has risen the cost on many important bills astronomically. Earmarks need to removed and make congressmen/women write separate bills for these pork issues and make them open issues. this closed door spinning and spending is one of the huge problems in our government and economy.
I am so sick of the earmarking going on. Has been a staple in DC for years.

I don't like the bill so I will attach something mundane to it so it won't pass and my constituents can't say I voted against it.

I would blame the Oil producing nations (especially those in the middle east) as they are using more and more of their own resources for themselves.

    Also China and India.

There really is nothing the U.S. can do to stem the rise in oil prices.

sure they can. They can shut down Detroit. Which they seem to be all but doing.

The oil companies take any sort of news as an excuse to raise the prices. There have been no oil refineries built in what? Something like 30 years?

I guess that would be fine. We can continue to use our own natural resources. It would reduce our dependency on foreign resources while we continue to try and find other sources for energy.

    Screw the caribou!

The funny part is the Caribou tend to congregate around or near the pipelines in other parts of Alaska, as the ambient warmth from the pipelines increases survival in the winters...so developing ANWAR would actually increase survival rates for Caribou, etc.

However fossil fuels do need to be replaced in the long-term as our main source of energy. The biggest problem isn't our dependence on these fuels for our vehicles as much as our power plants, factories, heating our homes, etc.

a lot of great points here. it will be a while until we come up with a solution for low priced energy for heating our homes and fueling our cars. It may always be oil. We need to drill our own oil. never going to happen though.

Guliani, Romey, and Thompson are the only worthy candidates in this race for president.

The media loves Huckabee and McCain...mainly because they are democrat liberals hiding under the name republican.

No matter what though, the president only has so much power. We need a complete overhaul of house and senate and elect conservative members for the next go around.

More than likely though, our country will one day completely fall to the liberals and we will evolve into a socialist country.
