Default Will D.T. make it this year?

17 Finalists for Hall of Fame election
    January 15, 2008

Two first-year eligible players, wide receiver Cris Carter and cornerback Darrell Green are among the 17 finalists who will be considered for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame when the Hall’s Board of Selectors meets in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, February 2, 2008.

Joining the two first-year eligible players, are 12 other modern-era players, one contributor and two players nominated earlier by the Hall of Fame’s Senior Committee.

The contributor finalist is former National Football League Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. The Senior Committee nominees, announced in August 2007, are Chicago Cardinals back Marshall Goldberg and Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Emmitt Thomas. The other modern-era player finalists include defensive ends Fred Dean and Richard Dent; linebackers Randy Gradishar, Derrick Thomas and Andre Tippett; guards Russ Grimm, Bob Kuechenberg and Randall McDaniel; punter Ray Guy; wide receivers Art Monk and Andre Reed; and tackle Gary Zimmerman.

I hope he does, but I think the HOF is a joke.

Like I said....HOF is a joke. I don't think either of these two guys put enough cocaine in their noses to get in anyways.

I don't know if D.T. will ever get in for two reasons. The Chiefs dismal playoff record while he was here and Kansas City being a small market. I did a lot of research, which I really hate to do, but came up with some surprising stats. Right now, D.T. is ranked 11th on the all-time sack list, which, I figure, is probably the most looked at statistic for a defensive player that isn't in the secondary. Of the ten people ahead of him, one is still playing (Strahan), one is ineligible, (B. Smith), one is a finalist this year (Dent), and two are in the Hall of Fame (R. White, L. Taylor). I'm going to put each players stats below, with the exception of Smith, Strahan, Taylor and White. I'm including Dent's because he hasn't been enshrined yet.

    Kevin Greene- 160sacks, 5 int, 26 FF, 22 FR, 3 Safeties, 24 points

    Chris Doleman- 150.5 sacks, 8 int, 43 FF, 24 FR, 2 Safeties, 22 points

    John Randle- 137.5 sacks, 1 int, 27 FF, 11 FR, 0 Safeties, 6 points

    Richard Dent- 137.5 Sacks, 8 int, * FF, 13 FR, 1 Safety, 14 points

    Leslie O'Neal- 132.5 Sacks, 3 int, * FF, 16 FR, 0 Safeties, 12 points

    Ricky Jackson- 128 Sacks, 0 int, 41 FF, 29 FR, 1 Safety, 2 points

    Derrick Thomas- 126.5 sacks, 1 int, 45 FF, 19 FR, 3 Safeties, 30 points
*- Could not find stats for O'Neal and Dent's FF

How could you pick, if you were picking by stats and not by heart? Compare, say, Chris Doleman's stats to D.T.'s. Doleman isn't even a finalist this year. So, I don't know if he'll ever get in. I just wanted to throw this out there to you all.
