    Gonzalez misses Chiefs' morning practice

By ADAM TEICHER The Kansas City Star

RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The Chiefs practiced without tight end Tony Gonzalez this morning. Gonzalez experienced some soreness in his foot as he continues to recover from a stress fracture that forced him out of all off-season practices.

Gonzalez practiced when the Chiefs began training camp Thursday. The Chiefs indicated that he would practice this afternoon, but coach Dick Vermeil also said Gonzalez might be an on-again, off-again proposition during camp.

“It just depends on how he feels. He looked really good on the practice field (Thursday) but he was sore this morning, so we rested him,” Vermeil said.

Starting wide receiver Eddie Kennison also missed practice because of soreness in his wrist. Vermeil said that X-rays on the wrist were negative and that Kennison, who was wearing a brace, would undergo an MRI.

“Right now,” Vermeil said, “we're pretty positive it's nothing serious.”

Free safety Jerome Woods was the star of the morning practice. Woods covered a lot of ground to break up Trent Green's deep pass down the middle for Jason Dunn. Woods also busted up a halfback pass from Larry Johnson in the end zone.
