Vikings Sign CB Sapp

The Vikings added to the depth at cornerback by signing veteran free agent Benny Sapp to a one-year deal.

Benny Sapp entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie out of Northern Iowa, but the cornerback could find at least one more year of NFL employment after signing a one-year contract with the Vikings. The deal is worth $705,000, according to, which is $100,000 more than the veteran minimum for a fifth-year player.

In four years (56 regular-season games) with the Chiefs, the 5-foot-9, 190-pound Sapp made six starts and had 103 tackles and two interceptions.

With the Vikings, he likely will compete for a roster spot with younger cornerback Charles Gordon and any other rookies the Vikings may add to the mix during draft weekend or immediately following.
