Gannon: Chiefs were bad but not the worst

    "

Former Chief and former Raider Rich Gannon said he was shocked by the Chiefs’ woeful play on Sunday. But Gannon said he doesn’t consider the Chiefs the bottom of the barrel in the NFL.
“Nah, nothing like that,” said Gannon, who was the CBS analyst for Sunday’s game.
“They played pretty hard at New England the week before. But for whatever reason, they just couldn’t stop the run on Sunday. But we knew going in they wouldn’t be a playoff-type team.”
Gannon, for diplomatic reasons no doubt, wouldn’t identify who might be worse than the Chiefs (the team across the state?).
“It’s a young, young team that will have short memories,” he said. “As badly as they played Sunday, and it was bad, they can bounce right back this week and play much better.
“That’s kind of what young teams do. They look so bad at some point you want to give up on them, and then they bounce right back the next week.”
Was there anything that impressed Gannon?
“I really like the young corners,” he said. “I liked Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr. I could see at some point that they would start Carr and move Patrick Surtain inside on the nickel.
“I also liked Branden Albert. This team had a good draft, a very good draft. I know it’s painful to watch now.”
As for the play of quarterback Tyler Thigpen
“He’s got a good arm and good legs, and he has some obvious ability,” Gannon said. “But he needs a lot of reps. He just needs the work. You can tell that his timing with the receivers was way off, guys weren’t ready for the throws.”
Was there any way Gannon could have foreseen such a whipping by the Raiders?
“No, not a chance,” he said. “We saw in practice Friday that there was going to be a quarterback rotation, and maybe that should have alarmed us, but I still thought they’d play good enough defense to hang in there.”

    Thanks Gannon.

Sorry we made you, an eventual NFL MVP, a clipboard holder.

    We paid for it.

He at least knows the fans wanted him.
THAT quarterback is NOT a Pro Bowl quarterback. Never was and never will be.

We would have at least an AFC title had we made the right call concerning Gannon.
Thanks for all the yards, TDs, and memories, Priest!
