    What Would You Do?

There are a few obvious holes on this team that need filled and some personnel changes that should probably be made. I'm putting this up to be something constructive. Please, try not to rant and rave too much. Let's see if we can really put our heads together and come up with something constructive (even though Herm can't use the internet and will never see this).

First, I would pull Sackintosh and put in Richardson or even try moving Taylor over.

Second, I'm starting Thigpen again next week. I know, I know. Some will want to crucify me for that but there is no QB's currently available that I would want. Maybe a trade could be worked out for somebody but I am not giving up our first round pick for Quinn. No way. If Tyler struggles, I'm bringing Huard in off the bench to try and salvage what he can from it. Then, I'm going to give Ingle a shot if I feel he has the offense down well enough the next week. If not, the I'm going back to Damon. Hopefully, Thig can redeem himself.

Third. Say what you want about Napo, but our defense looked better last year with him in the lineup. He was second on the team in tackles. Pat Thomas is out and Harris gets the nod from me.

Lastly, I would try to be a little more deceptive with the plays called when we change personnel from LJ to Charles and vise versa. Everybody expects Charles to get the screen or outside run and LJ up the middle. Nothing dramatic, just try LJ on a screen or two-- something like that. Basically, try the changeup a little more.
Thanks for all the yards, TDs, and memories, Priest!

Ok since we are dreaming here lets buy some stickem for the receivers gloves or better yet make them throw the gloves away and use their bare hands to catch the football. The completed passes in the game netted us great yardage. If we are not going to play Huard then get rid of him. I bet if we dug deep enough into other teams rosters we could find a gem in there at QB that Brodie could watch and learn from until it was his turn to be our starting QB. He was thrown in way too early and his confidence went right out the window. Look at Denver, dumped Plummer in a heart beat for a top QB draft choice. I think its worked out pretty good for them so far with Cutler. Sorry Jake but thats what it took to WIN! Lastly the coaching staff needs to come out of preseason mode and play these games to WIN! Oh lets try this and oh maybe this will work what do you think?....come on this is the NFL not High School tryouts. Get a QB and stick with it, take lots of extra catching practice till no drops is the norm and have a consistent game plan that the other teams fear and not laugh at.

As far as QB's are concerned, I definitely think we need somebody else. Even when Croyle comes back, I don't think he is going to be what the organization hoped he would be. However, signing somebody who's available right now wouldn't help as there are no really good QB's on the market. We would have to trade for somebody and finding somebody good that another team is willing to part with (or take anything we have to offer) is going to be extrememly difficult.

    A couple of ideas:

Brian Brohm - Somebody mentioned this in another thread earlier and it sparked some interest. Rodgers seems to be their guy but I doubt Green Bay would want to part ways with Brohm so soon after drafting him.

Chad Henne - See Brian Brohm.

John David Booty - It would be more likely if Tavaris Jackson wasn't a bust.

Seneca Wallace - He's got a hurt calf right now but when healthy, he may be able to at least run away from the guys pouring through the hole in the right side of the line.

Colt Brennan - Looked good in the preseason. Campbell and Collins are both listed in front of him on the depth chart and Campbell is only 26.

That's really all I can come up with for the time being. Thoughts?

I've understand conservative play calling, but honestly I'd love to see some deception come into play in the Chiefs playcalling. The Dolphins suck *** on talent level, but they showed a side last Sunday against the Patriots that didn't require a real passing game to get a running game going. I'd put Albert up against Long as a run blocker and the rest of your line is comparable at the least. Tony G & Bowe are way better than Fasano & Ginn Jr, so what it comes down to is LJ/Charles vs. Brown/Williams, and I'd take LJ/Charles in my opinion. That being said the problem is playcalling and execution.

I don't know that the Chiefs have the HB personnel to run the HB option pass Ronnie Brown ran last week, but how about running a few 'direct snap' plays, and having 3-4 different looks from each formation. Maybe Bowe and Charles in motion from opposite sides on the different plays, heck, just line up with 4 WRs more often and split them all wide and you reduce the body count that LJ has to worry about up the middle. I can't say changing the personnel is the issue at this point. With the play calling being so vanilla the personnel hasn't been given the opportunity to succeed.

The 49ers own my heart, but the Chiefs will always hold a better than neutral spot for giving my favorite player a place to leave with grace...

    Default Next years draft

Before Brodie got hurt, I knew we needed more line help (especially to train a replacement for Waters since he said he isnt planning on lasting a while) and some upgrades/replacements at LB. So I was hoping we could draft someone like Maulauga (sp) from USC in the first round. I was hoping Brodie could develop this year into a QB capable of AT LEAST managing a team that's focus is running the ball. But after week one my hopes are all but crushed.

Im kinda torn now what to do in the first round next year. I dont think any QB can succeed at the level we expect without O-line help. No matter if we draft Tebow, Stafford, Daniels, trade for Quinn, or get a time machine and bring Joe Montana from the 80's back. Neither one of them will be able to LEAD the team from their back.

Part of me wants to draft the best OL with our first round pick (i cant bear to say top five this early in the season ... it hurts my heart). So unless we get some good free agent signings, Im thinking a top RT, guard, and LB in the first 3 rounds. To get all that it may mean trading back into the later half of the first round for some 2nd or 3rd round picks, to difficult to say this early in the college and pro seasons.

Bring in a journeyman QB that knows how to go through progressions (maybe when Brodie comes back he will be that qb ... im hopeful).

For now, maybe put in Herb Taylor in for McIntosh. Mac aint going to be around for much longer, and since we are aleady in preseason mode, we will get an idea of how well he can do against a 1st team DL over the course of a game. Maybe McIntosh can move to guard since he has lost that quick outside step (there was already talk of that last offseason).

The line in the second half started to block ... so maybe there is hope ... maybe.

Herb Taylor looked tons better than Sackyntosh in pre-season. If this is truly a rebuilding year and by playing Thigpen over Huard it truly is. I don't see any reason Herb Taylor is not playing in place of Big Mac. I mean the worste thing that could happen is Herb gets beat the opening play for a sack.

Based on Herb's play that will help identify if there a hole at RT in the off season. If he proves that he can solidy the position, that will help our first round draft focus. If he fails, we still need to look at signing the best available tackl in Free Agency. If we use our first round pick on a QB and do nothing to improve the offensive line. That QB will be playing scared, and develop Happy Feet. (id David Carr).

We also need to fill a void at MLB. I am tired of signing dead Line Backers. I also miss Kawika Mitchell right about now. Scary huh...

There is a also a hole at DE. We need a pass rushing specialist. Tamba ain't it, and teams are running at him as a weakness.

Yup. I definitely agree on Taylor. We should move sackintosh in to guard and try Taylor and Richardson at RT to see who can win the job.

We need to try Napo and Williams at linebacker, too. Pat Thomas is not getting it done.

The pass rush is probably going to be the hardest thing for us to fix this season, IMO. We already have our best talent in there and they aren't getting it done-- another hole to fill in the offseason.

They tried Williams a bunch on Sunday. He made a couple of pursuing tackles away from him and got there pretty quick. I rember seeing him help up a Falcon while a Chiefs was laying on the ground right next to him. Obviously it was a close friend from his previous stint at Atlanta.

He recovered the punt fumble. I remember saying that is was smart to recover the ball instead of fumbling the ball more trying to pick it up with that big wrap on his hand.
