The Chiefs didn't look anything like the same team that got shut-down by Oakland and Atlanta the last two weeks. Granted, it's only one game against a Broncos team that I saw as overrated going into Sunday's game and while they put up good numbers offensively over the first three weeks, Denver has one of the worst defensive units in the league and two of their wins this season have involved some shady calls.

However, in weeks two and three of the 2008 season, the Chiefs didn't give anybody reason to think they could win an NFL against anybody (except maybe the hapless Rams). Nobody gave the Chiefs a chance against a Broncos team that was 3-10 at Arrowhead under head coach, Mike Shanahan. Things weren't looking good and the seats were starting to heat up under some people.

Then, the Chiefs came out and shocked Denver and the rest of the league with superstar performances from Larry Johnson and Derrick Johnson. The Brandons, (rookie corners Flowers and Carr) also played well, accounting for three of the Chiefs' four turnovers on Sunday. Demorrio Williams and Damon Huard both get honorable mention for their solid play, as well. And don't forget about the offensive line. These guys look like they are coming together and getting it figured out-- especially in the run game. They opened enough holes for Larry Johnson to go over 100 yards in the last two games. Johnson's 198 yard and 2 TD performance Sunday was a glimpse of that same LJ we saw rush for over 1700 yards in two consecutive seasons a few years back. Herb Taylor was able to competently step in after an injury to first-round draft pick, Branden Albert, showing some depth at left tackle. And the Chiefs overcame the Broncos, 33-19.

It's only one game. But after a 12 game skid and going winless since October of last year, it was a big one. The Chiefs and their fans needed this. Especially against another division opponent at home after getting embarrassed by the Raiders in week 2. The fact that we upset the undefeated Denver Broncos just makes it that much sweeter.
