    Replacing Peterson

Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said during an interview this week at the NFL fall meetings in Florida that Carl Peterson would be involved in selecting his eventual successor.

Peterson has the rest of this season plus one more remaining on what originally was a five-year contract. Peterson and Hunt have said it would be Peterson's final contract with the Chiefs.

"He and I had the discussion when he signed the contract that at the end we would need a succession plan," Hunt said. "It’s not a subject we’ve revisited but logically we would revisit after the season. Carl heads both the business side and the football side of the organization, which is a little bit unusual for the league. We need to think through carefully where we’re going with regard to both aspects of the operation and who the right people are for those roles."

Asked whether that meant he had made the decision to eventually split Peterson's duties into two and hire different people to run them, Hunt said, "No. Two people is much more typical but that’s not to say if we found the right person who had both skill sets, I wouldn't be open to that.

"It’s worked for us for 20 years so I don’t want to preclude that but it’s more likely that we’ll end up with two people filling the roles."

"It's worked for us for 20 years..." - This quote tells me a lot about Clark...

Peterson should not be involved at all in the process of choosing his successor(s).
Thanks for all the yards, TDs, and memories, Priest!

If CP had let DV draft a defensive player instead of LJ, 2003 would have been our year. All we needed was to make the Colts punt once!

Even then, we gave the ball to the Colts twice. Fumble and a missed FG!

Still would have probably won if we had a playmaker or two on D.

The fact remains that we haven't been to a superbowl in over 40 years, and 3 expansion teams have went since 2000. Whats up.

I think you have to actually be prepared to spend money...wisely. I believe in the youth movement, but to throw these kids in there without some solid mentoring by proven veterans like you could get on...say...the free agency market...is just to set them up for failure.
Look how many number one and number two QB's drafted over the last two or three years are sitting, with massive contracts, on the bench. LEARNING in behind a mentor. If those teams aren't prepared to put the weight of the team on those kid's shoulders, why the hell would be willing to do that to a MUCH less promising and talented QB like Croyle?
I think after watching management CONSISTENTLY grab the poor rejects from other teams, our new motto needs to be "Everyone elses garbage is our Gold".

Leadership is so important to a young team. Younger players need to learn to be leaders from older players who understand the role.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a Great History. Learn who we put on the Kansas City Chiefs All Time Team

With the decisions that Carl has flubbed up, he shouldcn't be the one to pick his successor. That would be like Hitler choosing someone that was just as much of a monster to succeed him!
