    Default An all new low

With another game where we the opposing QB barely got dirt on his pants, we're closing in on shattering the all time NFL low on sacks. I think I saw where the record was 13. We've got what, f'n 6? A few weeks ago we gave up the most points in our history. We've lost more games ever over 2 or 3 year span ever. Rebuilding is one thing, but this is just stupid. There are bright spots, and things to build on. But how the F do we have a defensive line like that?

The record is 11, and that was in a strike year. The record is 15 in a non-strike year.

Our DL was drafted to be lighter and faster than most lines. Herm wanted a lighter, faster line so that he could get pressure on the opposing QB with his entire front 4. Dorsey was to be his Warren Sapp, if you think back to the Tampa defenses.

Herm messed up by (1) thinking Hali was a whole lot better than he was - he didn't seem to realize JA's double teams accounted for most of Hali's sacks; (2) not bothering to sign a pass rusher opposite Hali, leaving it the hands of tweeners like Boone and McBride; (3) not signing a vet somewhere along the line to mentor the kids; (4) not upgrading from the Tank/Edwards 2DT combo; (5) cheaping out on LBs, giving teams little disincentive to run at the DL most downs; and (6) not replacing his DC with a DC that knows how to run the Cover 2 (not to blame Gun entirely, but the Cover 2 isn't his type of defense).
