For some reason the NFL suits had a fixation on hot air balloons. I don't think it was Lamar Hunts(AFL Owner) idea but more Pete Rozell (NFL League Commissioner) , he was always attempting to do odd things that made the Superbowl stand out differently so people would remember it.

Ya I was about to say the same thing. Pre game the wind caught it and blew into the stands.

I want to say it was a vikings ballon with their mascot in there.
