Report: Chiefs, Falcons Haven't Talked about Gonzalez Trade
Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post originally started the firestorm when he reported the Atlanta Falconswere "seriously considering" offering up a second round pick for the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez.
Apparently, "seriously considering" didn't turn into any, you know, actual conversations about the Chiefs future Hall of Fame tight end.
According to Tom Curran of NBCSports.com, the Chiefs and Falcons haven't engaged in any trade discussions.
The Falcons and Chiefs haven't talked about a deal that would send wide receiver Tony Gonzalez to Atlanta, according to two sources.Curran went on to say that this doesn't necessarily mean the Falcons wouldn't want Gonzalez. I mean, despite his age what team couldn't use a tight end who has shown no signs of slowing down and can still rack up 1,000 yards and 90+ catches?
He characterizes the Chiefs and Falcons trade rumors as "nothing more than a daydream" at this point.
Though the reports of a Chiefs and Falcons swap may have been premature, it could spark other teams' interest in Gonzalez.
On the other hand, if talks have already occurred, would we even know about it? Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff and Chiefs GM Scott Pioli both come from the Bill Belichick school of uber-secrecy so it wouldn't be a complete shock if both parties were able to keep any discussions under wraps.
