    RIVER FALLS WRAP: DAY 19

    Aug 13, 2007, 8:14:13 PM

    By Josh Looney
Breakdown: The Chiefs are heading down the homestretch in River Falls as the club completed the first of their final two remaining practice sessions this morning. Head Coach Herm Edwards morphed two practices into one two-hour session this morning at 11:15 AM.

Morning practice started off with special teams coach Mike Priefer guiding the club through coverage drills before Edwards began a typical training camp practice routine. Edwards has scaled back this week’s practices due to a short prep week before the club takes on Miami at Arrowhead on Thursday night.

Full-Throttle: Chiefs 2007 first-round draft pick WR Dwayne Bowe worked through team drills today for the first time this training camp after being removed from the PUP List. He practiced mainly with the third-team offense as he continues to progress from the time he missed during the first two weeks of training camp. Head coach Herm Edwards said that he expects Bowe to play on Thursday against the Dolphins.

“We’ll probably try to get him in the game,” Edwards commented. “He’s gotten to practice some now and that’s important. The good thing about us going back home we’ll be on a good schedule, it will be every Thursday we will have a game. This is a short week, but the following two and then the opener, we’ll have a lot of time to practice.”

New Face In Camp: Free agent WR Bobby Sippio signed a two-year contract with Kansas City on Monday and took part in today’s practice. Sippio spent the previous four seasons (2004-07) in the Arena Football League. He caught 354 passes for 5,137 yards (14.5 avg.) with 142 TDs. He played in 18 games with the Chicago Rush in 2006-07, recording 163 receptions for 2,391 yards (14.7 avg.) with 70 scores. He also spent two seasons (2002-03) in Arena League 2 and originally entered the NFL as a free agent with Miami in 2004.

    Plays Of The Day:

WR Dwayne Bowe’s first reception of the 2007 training camp went for a touchdown. QB Casey Printers hit the first-rounder on a fade pattern past CB Michael Bragg.

QB Damon Huard found TE Tony Gonzalez in the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown connection.

TE Tony Gonzalez acted as a decoy as he drew coverage in Red Zone drills allowing RB Michael Bennett to slip underneath coverage and into the end zone on a pass from QB Damon Huard.

TE Keith Willis out-leaped CB Dimitri Patterson and S Greg Wesley and planted both feet in-bounds to snatch a touchdown pass in the back corner of the end zone.

RB Michael Bennett and QB Casey Printers teamed up for a perfectly orchestrated flea-flicker play that found a wide open WR Chris Hannon in the back of the end zone for a touchdown.

    Look Who’s Talking:
“I’ll make you pull something #50.“
    - WR Eddie Kennison warning LB Napoleon Harris what would happen if he tried to run with him in man coverage.

Look Ahead: The Chiefs only have one practice remaining in River Falls until the club moves back to Arrowhead Stadium on Wednesday. The final Chiefs practice will take place at 11:15 AM on Tuesday morning.

You Asked It: Submit your questions to River Falls Wrap, Chiefs Chatter and Camping With The Chiefs by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

Lonnie from Topeka, KS: “Are we going to get to see RB Priest Holmes play this season?”

JL: The original plan was for Holmes to spend about three weeks building up his football conditioning base before he joined the club for any contact drills and we are nearing the end of those three weeks. Today, Herm Edwards told members of the media that he is hopeful Holmes will participate in practices once the club returns to Kansas City. He also set sights on the possibility of Holmes dressing for the final preseason game in St. Louis.

Laura B. from Olathe, KS.: “What’s the background on CB Justin Phinisee? I thought he did a good job in the return game against Cleveland. Is he new this year?”

JL: Laura, Phinisee was a member of the Chiefs practice squad for six weeks in 2006, although this is his first training camp with the club. A former University of Oregon standout, Phinisee originally entered the NFL as the first of Tampa Bay’s three seventh-round draft picks (235th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft. Look for him to continue to return kicks and man the cornerback position on Thursday against the Dolphins.
THAT quarterback is NOT a Pro Bowl quarterback. Never was and never will be.
