It was a second and one in the fourth quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs 42-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. RB Jamaal Charles took the carry up the middle for four yards and was brought down by DE Jay Richardson. To most, it was the KC Chiefs running out the clock in a blowout victory.
For us -- Chiefs fans -- and for Charles, it was 1,000. Charles surpassed 1,000 yards rushing for the season on that play and ended up with 173 on the day. He's at 1,021 for the year and on pace for 1,485 yards.

Consider this; Charles is second in the NFL in rushing yards but has 63 less carries (and 126 less yards) than the leader, Houston Texans RB Arian Foster. Charles averages about six less carries per game than the top six leading rushers in the NFL . Of those six, Foster is the closest to Charles' yards per carry with 5.1 -- a full 1.2 yards below Charles, the NFL's leader in that category.
You could fairly easily make the case that he's the best running back in the NFL. Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has five less yards than Charles -- and 56 more carries.
RB Thomas Jones isn't doing too shabby himself. He's on pace for 1,035 yards which means the duo is projected at their current pace to combine for over 2,500 yards rushing. Jones is at 716 yards right now so he'll need a strong finish to the final five games to hit 1,000.
So, in summary: KC running backs are dominating and no one is really in the same hemisphere as Jamaal Charles.

I never thought someone could average 6+ yards/per carry for an entire season. This guy is incredible.

I've been searching to see how many first downs J.C. has rushed for...

Anyhow, it must be substantial as we are second in the league behind the Jaguars with 93 rushing first downs coming out of this week to Jacksonville's 99. Mind you, San Fransisco & Arizona haven't finished play but being at the bottom of the league they don't matter in this.

Especially in the modern NFL where everyone is a super athlete.

I have been saying it all season long! Charles is the best player on our team! Give him the ball 20 times per game and magic will happen. 6 yds per carry is not a fluke, he is a stud and is the key to our success! Happy he is a Chief!!

Haley splits time between Charles and Jones very well so that Charles isn't being ran into the ground.
