I wasn’t going to go here, but this is the third time in the past two weeks that I have heard about the Lions possibly trading for Glenn Dorsey. This time it actually came from a credible source.

Tom Kowalski, Detroit Lions beat writer, says that neither the Chiefs or Dorsey are happy about his role in the 3-4 defense and that they could be looking for a change. He goes on about the Gunther Cunningham / Glenn Dorsey draft connection and thinks that the Lions could get him for less than a straight pick, suggesting that “swapping picks in a round or two” would be sufficient.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that I know a thing or two about the Chiefs and that I’ve never heard of this beef between Dorsey and the front office. All that is ever said about Dorsey, is that he has made huge strides and that he will only get better if he stays in shape. We saw what the defense looked like without Glenn Dorsey last year and so did Jerome Harrison.

I think that this is wishful thinking on the behalf of one of the few franchises that have lost more games than the Chiefs in the past three years. I could be wrong too. Who knows? Maybe the Chiefs drafted two defensive ends last year because they didn’t believe in Dorsey. Maybe they are just dying to get three gigantic bodies on the line and can’t wait to get Dorsey outta here.

With this secretive regime, nobody really knows anything, including Tom Kowalski.

Romeo Crennel will, without a doubt, be the one to evaluate Dorsey and decide what is best for the Chiefs in all defensive areas. If he is looking at last years film though, it would almost be impossible for Crennel to be impressed more by any other lineman than Dorsey.  Nobody knows what the future holds, but for right now, Dorsey is the best lineman that the Chiefs have, whether you like it or not.  That’s obviously the first thing that would make me question a trade during this off season. The other thing would be the fact that Dorsey played an awful lot, taking plenty of snaps away from guys like Alex Magee and Wallace Gilberry. If you were 3-12 and you had a player that you didn’t like in your scheme and you knew that he would be on the trade block after the current season, would you play him almost every defensive snap of the game? Or would you give another guy a shot? My point exactly.

I’m not too worried about Dorsey being traded, but I would be worried if he did get traded…. Yeah, thats what I meant.

I know that there will be plenty of moves to analyze over the coarse of the off season and with Pioli calling the shots, you can expect some surprises. Hopefully this won’t be one of them.
