[/TABLE]The Kansas City Chiefs will aim to get back on track this weekend with a matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium.
Here are five things to keep in mind heading into game day.
1. Here’s a look at the final injury report for both teams.
The Chiefs will be without running back Jerick McKinnon (groin) and wide receiver Mecole Hardman (thumb) for Sunday’s game, Head Coach Andy Reid revealed on Friday. In some good news, wide receiver Richie James – who hasn’t played since Week 2 with a knee injury – appears to be good to go as he has no injury designation entering Sunday’s game.
As for the Raiders, edge rusher Maxx Crosby – who leads the NFL in pressures with 63 – is listed as “Doubtful” for Sunday’s game due to a knee injury. Crosby, whose 10.5 sacks rank fifth in the league, didn’t practice this week due to the injury. Additionally, starting linebacker Robert Spillane is listed as “Questionable” for Sunday with an ankle injury. Spillane leads Las Vegas in tackles (94) and ranks second on the team in defensive snaps (733).
Raiders’ safety Marcus Epps, who has logged 673 defensive snaps this season, is also listed as “Questionable” with a neck injury, and starting left tackle Kolton Miller is listed as “Questionable” with a shoulder injury. Miller missed the Raiders’ last two games due to the injury.
2. The Chiefs’ defense, which has been perhaps the league’s best this season, will need to contain Raiders’ tailback Josh Jacobs.
Despite the loss on Monday, the Chiefs’ defense was spectacular once again. Kansas City held Philadelphia – which entered the game as the No. 3 scoring offense in the NFL – to only 238 yards of offense and a 3-for-11 mark on third down while forcing seven punts, a season-most for the Eagles. It ultimately wasn’t enough on Monday, but the performance only further re-enforced the reality that this may be the top defense in the NFL.
In fact, the Chiefs are atop the league rankings in terms of fewest offensive points allowed (155) and remain the only team to hold the opposition under 25 total points in every game this season.
They’ll look to continue that torrid start against the Raiders on Sunday, and if they’re to do so, it will need to begin with containing Raiders’ tailback Josh Jacobs. The league’s leading rusher last season, Jacobs has touched the football more than any other non-quarterback in the NFL this year. Through Week 11, Jacobs leads the league in total touches (231) and rushing attempts (200), touching the football on a staggering 67 percent of the Raiders’ offensive plays.
Additionally, no other player on the Raiders has more than 65 rushing yards on the season, while Jacobs has 661. Now, it’s worth pointing out that Jacobs’ average yards-per-carry mark is just 3.31 yards this year, but still, he has proven himself capable during his career of breaking a big play at any moment.
It’s all to say that if the Chiefs are to slow down the Raiders’ offense on Sunday, stopping Jacobs must be the top priority.
3. Las Vegas will start rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell for the fourth-straight week.
Las Vegas’ quarterback on Sunday will be rookie Aidan O’Connell, who will suit up for his fourth consecutive start. The former fourth-round pick has completed 56-of-93 passes (60.2%) for 633 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions in that span, leading the Raiders to a pair of victories before narrowly falling to Miami last week. He has shown a willingness to throw the ball down the field, too, recording 14 pass attempts of at least 20 air yards in that span, which ranks eighth in the NFL.
It’s worth pointing out that O’Connell was under pressure on 48.8 percent of his dropbacks last week vs. Miami, completing 10-of-19 passes for 101 yards and two interceptions. He was also blitzed 10 times, averaging just 4.4 yards-per-attempt on those snaps. It’s reasonable to expect the Chiefs’ defense – which blitzes at the sixth-highest rate in the NFL – to bring significant pressure against O’Connell throughout Sunday’s game.

4. The Raiders’ defense has been among the best in the league over the last several weeks.
The Raiders’ defense has been playing significantly better ever since interim Head Coach (and former NFL linebacker) Antonio Pierce took over back in Week 9. Las Vegas owns the league’s No. 3 scoring defense in that time, yielding just 12.7 points-per-game, while forcing six turnovers.
“They play hard. I think that’s the biggest thing. Coach Pierce is a great coach who was a great player, and he has a mindset that I think you can see [permeating] throughout the entire team,” said quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “They’ve got a lot of guys that love football. It starts with [defensive end] Maxx [Crosby], but [also linebacker Robert] Spillane. All those guys that are out there, they’re playing hard and flying around every single snap.”
Crosby – who is listed as “Doubtful” for the game due to a knee injury – has played 98.3 percent of the Raiders’ defensive snaps this season. He leads the NFL with 63 pressures, so his potential absence would obviously be a gigantic deal.
5. Kansas City will look to avoid the self-inflicted miscues.
The narrative in all three of the Chiefs’ losses this season – last week’s defeat at the hands of Philadelphia included – has been self-inflicted mistakes and errors. Those miscues include turnovers, penalties and drops, many of which have seemed to occur at critical moments, particularly in the second half of games.
The Chiefs have otherwise proven very difficult to beat, however, and the fortunate thing about self-inflicted errors is that they’re fixable and avoidable, as Coach Reid explained earlier this week.
“We can do better with the penalty part, and we can do better attacking the ball. Those are things that we can work on and that we’ll continue to work on, and that’s where we’ll start,” Reid said. “There’s no reason you can’t do what you did in the first half, in the second half.”
The Chiefs will aim to avoid those mistakes on Sunday as Kansas City looks to keep pace for the top record in the conference. The Chiefs currently sit a half-game behind the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins in the AFC playoff picture, but with a victory on Sunday (and a Ravens’ loss), Kansas City would re-take its place atop the standings due to tie-breakers.

Fri, Nov 24, 2023, 8:47 AM CSTLAS VEGAS — The Kansas City Chiefs visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Kansas City has won the past five meetings, 10 of the previous 11 and 15 of 17.
The Chiefs are coming off a 21-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Las Vegas lost 20-13 at the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Oddsmakers favor the Chiefs by 9 1/2 points. Kansas City’s offense and defense ranked in the top eight. The Raiders’ units are closer to the bottom.
Betting info and recent trendsOPENING LINE: Chiefs by 9 1/2, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

RAIDERS DEFENSE: OVERALL (21), RUSH (27), PASS (11), SCORING (13).
TURNOVER DIFFERENTIAL: Chiefs minus-5; Raiders minus-7.
Chief to watch
CB Trent McDuffie. The second-year pro is making a strong case for an All-Pro nod this season. He had two sacks and forced a fumble against the Eagles last week, and he played a big part in shutting down wide receiver A.J. Brown. McDuffie has forced a league-leading five fumbles this season.
Raider to watchRB Josh Jacobs. Interim coach Antonio Pierce said the Raiders didn’t stick with the ground game like they should have at Miami. Jacobs received only 14 carries, resulting in 39 yards, but he is a physical back who wears down defenses. Especially considering the Chiefs are average defensively against the run, look for Las Vegas to make more of a commitment and for Jacobs to return to form in which he gained 214 yards over the two previous games.
Key matchupChiefs RB Isiah Pacheco vs. Raiders’ defensive front. Pacheco rushed for 66 yards in the first half against the Eagles, forcing Philadelphia to bring its defensive backs closer to the line of scrimmage. Especially with Kansas City’s receivers dropping passes, the Chiefs could try to establish the run game to open up passing opportunities, particularly considering the Raiders rank near the bottom in rush defense.
Injury reportThe Chiefs are keeping an eye on WR Mecole Hardman’s sprained thumb … Kansas City RB Jerick McKinnon (groin) was limited in practice Wednesday. … Raiders DE Maxx Crosby (knee) didn’t practice Wednesday. … Las Vegas CB Amik Robertson (concussion) returned to practice and LT Kolton Miller (shoulder) was limited.
Odds and Ends
Kansas City has won the past five meetings. The Raiders’ last victory was 40-32 on Oct. 11, 2020, in Kansas City.
The Chiefs have not scored in the second half in their past three games and have a league-low 53 points in the second half of games this season.
Kansas City has held opponents to 24 points or fewer in each of their 10 games, tying the 1969 and 1971 teams for the fourth-longest streak to start a season. The record is 14 set in 1991.
The Chiefs have had more than one sack in every game since Week 2, tying the fifth-longest streak in club history.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has started 44 straight games, tying Hall of Famer Len Dawson for second at his position in franchise history. Trent Green started 81 in a row.
TE Travis Kelce passed Jamaal Charles last week for second in Chiefs history with 10,999 yards on offense and special teams combined. Dante Hall had 12,356 from 2000-06. Kelce has 74 career TD catches. He needs three more to pass Tony Gonzalez for the most in franchise history.
DT Chris Jones had two sacks last week against Philadelphia, tying him with Neil Smith for the fourth-most multisack games in Chiefs history with 19. Tamba Hali is third with 20.
Chiefs K Harrison Butker is 19 for 19 on field-goal attempts this season.
Rather than stick with their game-week routine, the Raiders had a walk-through practice Tuesday rather than have the players take the usual day off. They instead will get Thursday off for Thanksgiving.
This is the second week in a row Las Vegas has altered plans. The Raiders originally were scheduled to spend last week in Orlando, Florida, before traveling to Miami. They instead remained in Las Vegas before flying to South Florida on the weekend.
DE Maxx Crosby has reached 10-plus tackles for the third time. He’s the seventh Raiders player to accomplish that feat in his first five seasons. Crosby also is 1 1/2 sacks from 49 1/2 for his career, which would be the best for a Raiders player in his first five seasons.
Jacobs is 74 yards from scrimmage from 1,000, which would make him one of nine running backs since 2000 to reach that mark in each of his first five seasons. Marcus Allen is the only other Raiders back to pull that off.
WR Davante Adams is six receptions from 70, which would extend his streak to eight seasons. It would tie for the sixth-longest streak in NFL history and make Adams one of 10 players to accomplish that.
FANTASY TIP: Chiefs TE Travis Kelce. After his uncharacteristic fumble that helped cost the Chiefs the game against Philadelphia, look for Kelce to bounce back and play up to his usual high standards. He also is the receiver Mahomes trusts most. The two could look to establish an early rhythm.

from ArrowheadPride.comThe AFC West rivals’ first matchup of the season has playoff implications.
By Ron Kopp | @Ron_Kopp | Nov 25, 2023, 12:00pm CST
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports12 weeks into the NFL season, one of professional football’s oldest, most storied rivalries finally gets the stage. The (7-3) Kansas City Chiefs and the (5-6) Las Vegas Raiders will battle for the 129th time on Sunday afternoon at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada; the game kicks off at 3:25 PM Arrowhead time.
The Chiefs entered the weekend as 8.5-point favorites, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. That reflects Kansas City only losing once in this head-to-head matchup since quarterback Patrick Mahomes took the reins. However, the Raiders have won two of three games since firing head coach Josh McDaniels and replacing him with interim coach Antonio Pierce, revitalized as they sit in position to contend for the postseason this year.
I have five things to watch in the important AFC West battle:
1. The status of Maxx Crosby
Photo by William Purnell/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesOn the Raiders’ final injury report, defensive end Maxx Crosby was listed as doubtful to play in the game with a knee injury. Las Vegas’ best player hasn’t practiced all week — and may miss this matchup for the first time in his career.
It would be the first game he has ever missed in his five-year, 77-game career. I can’t help but think Crosby finds a way to be on the field, ready to build off the three sacks he earned in two games against Kansas City last year.
Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is prepared; he described what makes the two-time Pro Bowler such a presence during his press conference Monday.
“This guy doesn’t come off the field,” Nagy asserted to reporters. “He is on the field every play, and he is going 120 miles per hour on every play; you have to know where he is at… He’s going to make plays, that is what he does, but we have to make sure he doesn’t make a game-changing play.”
If Crosby can’t go, the Chiefs’ offense would have every reason to make this a comfortable win. Another sloppy game of turnovers, penalties, and drops would be strongly discouraging.
2. Covering Davante Adams
Photo by William Purnell/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesOnly three wide receivers have been targeted more than the Raiders’ Davante Adams this season. He has seen throws from three different quarterbacks, now rolling with rookie Aidan O’Connell for the fourth-consecutive start.
Adams hasn’t gotten over 90 yards in any of the three games, and the Chiefs are looking to keep it that way with cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo confirmed that Monday while also acknowledging that cornerback Trent McDuffie is trusted there.
“We’ll find ways to get [Sneed] on Davante,” Spags assured. “It won’t be all the time, because sometimes when LJ and Trent are in there, we’re okay with them going right or left, so it’s not every down.”
O’Connell has targeted Adams 18 more times than anyone else on the team over the last three games. If the Chiefs take that connection away, the rookie could be food for a hungry pass rush, prepared to dine after playing some of the hardest quarterbacks to get to in recent weeks.
Continued on the next page~~~11/26/2023 at 8:24 am #1088878~~~Continued from previous page
3. Limiting Josh Jacobs on the ground
Photo by David Eulitt/Getty ImagesIf the Raiders can’t get the ball comfortably to Adams, the offense will pound the rock — something it has leaned on since the coaching change. In that stretch, the Raiders rank ninth in success rate on rush plays, meaning rushes by Josh Jacobs have been consistently keeping the unit ahead of the sticks.
I highlight Jacobs because he leads the NFL in rushing attempts. He has taken 91% of the rush attempts at running back over the last three weeks, most of that coming in a 30-6 blowout win over the New York Giants.
It’s all him, and members of the Chiefs’ defense know that their hard hats will be required for work this weekend.
4. Can the pass offense finish?
Photo by Scott Winters/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesRecently, the Chiefs’ offense has built early leads by executing on early downs and controlling the game at the line of scrimmage. When defenses overcorrected and forced the Chiefs to throw, the unit failed to step up, resulting in the second-half statistics you’ve cringed at all week.
The pass game has to find its rhythm, and it might have to this week. The Raiders’ defense has played well against the run: only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers allow more EPA/rush attempts than Las Vegas over the last three games. In last week’s 20-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins, the Raiders held Miami to 46 yards less than their season average.
The Chiefs’ rushing attack may find room initially, but the Raiders are capable of clamping down. Can the pass game step up and finish this week?
5. Execution on special teams
Photo by David Eulitt/Getty ImagesOutside of kicker Harrison Butker, the Chiefs’ special teams unit hasn’t played up to its standard this season. This week, that group may need to really lock in, according to special teams coordinator Dave Toub:
“The Raiders are a good football team,” Toub began during a press conference Monday. “We do statistics all year long and we keep track, they are ranked number one on special teams. they definitely have our attention… they’re a really good unit. They fly around.”
The boost from that phase could be what has propelled the Raiders to a 5-6 record, winning in the margins. Toub noted both sides of the return game to be important.
“They have a great returner in [DeAndre] Carter, he’s excellent,” Toub shared. “The punter is having a year that is crazy good, [A.J.] Cole, he’s doing it really, really well. It’s going to be a tough one on a short week.”
Punt returner Kadarius Toney found space multiple times last week. Yet, wide receiver Richie James is slated to be the primary punt returner again. With the Chiefs’ defense bound to force plenty of punts, the operation on that play must be clean.
