The Kansas City Chiefs will kick off the second half of the season with a re-match of Super Bowl LVII on Monday night in one of the most anticipated games of the year.

Here are five things to keep in mind heading into game day.

              1. Here’s a look at the final injury report for both teams.

Head Coach Andy Reid didn’t have any injuries to report following Saturday’s practice, adding that everyone participated. The only caveat to that news is that wide receiver Richie James – who was placed on Injured Reserve with a knee injury earlier this season – is unlikely to be activated prior to Monday, according to Reid.

James, while still technically on Injured Reserve, returned to practice on Nov. 1. He can remain in his current state until Nov. 22, when the Chiefs will need to make a decision about his status for the remainder of the year.

The Eagles will be without tight end Dallas Goedert, who fractured his arm in Week 9. The absence of Goedert is a significant, as he ranks third on the Eagles in catches (38), receiving yards (410) and receiving touchdowns (2). The veteran tight end caught six passes for 60 yards in Super Bowl LVII.

Philadelphia will also be missing the services of second-year linebacker Nakobe Dean (foot), who was placed on Injured Reserve earlier this week. Dean started each of the Eagles’ last three games before suffering the injury.

              2. The Chiefs have allowed the fewest offensive points in the NFL through Week 10.

Through 10 weeks, no defense has been better than Kansas City in the most important statistic of all: points allowed.

Kansas City has surrendered only 134 offensive points this season, which are the fewest of any team in the NFL. The Chiefs played one less game through 10 weeks than Baltimore, the next-closest team, to be fair, but the point remains, Kansas City’s defense has been nothing short of outstanding.

The Chiefs are the only team in the NFL to yield no more than 24 points in every single one of their games this year. Kansas City has allowed the fewest plays of 20+ yards of any team (24), and their 31 sacks rank third. It appears to be sustainable, too, as their collective performance hasn’t been buoyed by a high takeaway total (where they rank 16th) or an unreasonably high rate of success in the red zone (where they’re 17th).

This defense has simply been nothing short of outstanding through the first half of the season, and they’ll be tested yet again when Philadelphia – the No. 3 scoring offense in the NFL – takes the field on Monday.

              3. Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts has the second-longest average time to throw in the NFL.

Interestingly enough, the Chiefs will go from facing a quarterback with the quickest release in the NFL in Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa (a league-leading 2.31 seconds) to a passer with one of the longest time-to-throw marks in Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts, whose 3.14-second release time is the second-longest of any passer with 300+ dropbacks. For example, 61 percent of Tagovailoa’s pass attempts this season have taken place in fewer than 2.5 seconds. Hurts, by contrast, has thrown the ball in fewer than 2.5 seconds on just 41 percent of his dropbacks.

It’s all to say that Hurts plays a much different style of quarterback than what the Chiefs last faced, and because of that longer time-to-throw, there is potential for Kansas City’s pass-rush to have a significant impact on the game. In fact, Hurts has been under pressure on 37 percent of his dropbacks this year, but to his credit, the veteran quarterback has completed six “big time throws” – a subjective measure calculated by Pro Football Focus – while under pressure. His ability as a runner, as evidenced by his 316 rushing yards this season, also comes into play in those situations.

Still, Hurts has been sacked 22 times this season – the 10th-most of any player – while recording eight interceptions and three lost fumbles.

Simply put, the Chiefs’ pass-rush will likely have opportunities during Monday’s game, and when presented, it’s imperative that they take advantage.

              4. Philadelphia’s offense emphasizes ball control and running the clock.

The Eagles’ offense is among the best in the NFL this season, averaging 28 points-per-game, but their style of play represents a stark contrast to that of the Chiefs’ last opponent in the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins were predicated on quick-strike drives and big plays, both of which the Chiefs were able to limit in Week 9. The Eagles, by contrast, are a ball-control offense that thrives on efficiency.

For example, Philadelphia has the most 10-play scoring drives of any team with 21, and the second-longest single-game average time of possession at 33 minutes and 26 seconds. The Eagles’ average scoring drive takes nine plays and more than four minutes, and in the process, Philadelphia keeps the opposing offense off the field. In fact, the Eagles’ defense has faced the fewest offensive possessions of any team at just 91.

It’s all to say that the Eagles prefer to maintain a slow, methodical rhythm offensively that chews up clock, finishes drives with points and limits the opportunities of the other team. The key for the Chiefs will be to throw off that rhythm by creating negative plays and turnovers.

Philadelphia has just 48 negative plays this season – the third-fewest in the NFL – while their 13 giveaways rank in the middle of the pack, but in their lone loss vs. New York, the Eagles turned the ball over four times and committed five negative plays. It seems like an obvious point of emphasis, but against Philadelphia, it’s absolutely critical.

              5. Nobody has been more successful following a bye week than Head Coach Andy Reid.

It’s perhaps the most well-known statistic among fans of the Chiefs, but it bears repeating: no head coach has been more successful following a bye week than Andy Reid.

Reid is a remarkable 21-3 following a regular-season bye in his career, including an 8-2 mark with Kansas City. The Chiefs have won each of their last five games following a regular-season bye, and when including all games that follow the annual break – not just the game that takes place immediately after – Kansas City is 28-5 since 2018.

It’s worth pointing out that Philadelphia is also coming off of its bye week for Monday’s game, meaning that both teams will be rested and ready to go for what promises to be one of the matchups of the year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The storylines are ripe for the choosing when the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.

Favor some good, old-fashioned revenge? The NFC-leading Eagles (8-1) will try to exact some when they visit Arrowhead Stadium just nine months after the AFC-leading Chiefs (7-2) used a second-half rally to beat them in the Super Bowl.

Love seeing some points? Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Chiefs counterpart Patrick Mahomes, the MVP of that memorable February showdown, have you covered. They’re the triggers behind two of the league’s top 10 offenses.

Hankering for some history? Andy Reid can pass Hank Stram as the winningest Chiefs coach, and become the first to hold that distinction with two different franchises; the other just happens to be Philadelphia.

How about social intrigue, the kind at the intersection of sports and entertainment? Eagles center Jason Kelce and younger brother Travis Kelce will match up one more time. And this time, rumors are flying that pop superstar Taylor Swift, who has been seeing the Chiefs tight end for the past couple of months, could be bringing her parents to meet his for the first time.

“It’s going to be a great game. You’ve got great teams in general,” Mahomes said. “Jalen is a great quarterback but I think just the whole entire team on both sides — two teams that usually find a way to get a win, playing on Monday Night Football in front of the whole world. I think it’s going to be a great game.”

Given the circus surrounding it, the game itself almost seems like an afterthought.

                    One with important ramifications, though.

The teams are coming off a relatively late bye, which has freshened them up for the back half of the season. And while both currently hold the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences, and the lone playoff bye that comes as the reward, the standings are tight enough that the Eagles and Chiefs need to keep winning if they want to earn a postseason week off.

They know that is the easiest way to get back to the game that matters the most.

“Our job is to get prepared for this game,” said Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, who along with Reid could not help but look at video of their Super Bowl showdown this week, and certainly had a much different experience while doing it.

“What happened in the past, happened in the past,” Sirianni continued. “We’ll learn from our mistakes. We’ll get better from the things we did well. But I would be lying if I didn’t say, ‘Argh, if this would have happened or that would have happened,’ once in a while. But we’re not dwelling on it.”

                      BIG RED ON A BYE

Reid is so proficient at winning after a week off — he is 31-6 after a bye, including the postseason — that many coaches have tried to get some tips from him. But not even Reid can pinpoint the reasons behind his remarkable record, which includes a 13-1 mark during 14 regular seasons in Philadelphia and a 9-3 record in postseason games.

“I get asked that because we’ve had success,” Reid said, “but we just go play. I don’t know. We’ve had good players.”

                      INJURY UPDATES

While the Chiefs come into the game healthy, the Eagles have had to adapt to some injuries. Defensive back Bradley Roby could be back after missing time with a shoulder strain, linebacker Nakobe Dean went on injured reserve this week after hurting his foot against Dallas, and star tight end Dallas Goedert is out after breaking his forearm in the same game.

“Anytime you lose a player to Dallas Goedert’s capabilities, you have to compensate,” Sirianni said, “and it’s never just one guy’s responsibility to take all the brunt of that work. It’ll be by committee.”

                      KINGS OF THE CLOSE GAMES

The Chiefs are 4-1 in games decided by fewer than 10 points, which falls in line with their ability under Reid to win the close ones. Philadelphia is 5-1 in games decided by a touchdown or less. Both are coming off close wins before their bye with Kansas City beating Miami 21-14 in Germany and Philadelphia beating Dallas 28-23.

                      CONFIDENT CHRIS

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, who ended his holdout in Week 1 and promptly had at least one sack in each of his first five games, has been held without a sack since. But Reid defended the All-Pro this week, pointing out that the attention Jones demands has allowed others on the defensive line to make plays.

“I’m going to hit my numbers regardless,” Jones added. “I’m not going to trip over my numbers.”

                      OH, AND ABOUT TAYLOR

Travis Kelce spent part of his week off flying to Buenos Aires to watch Swift resume her Eras Tour, and video of the 12-time Grammy winner embracing the Chiefs tight end at the side of the stage blazed across social media. She was due to perform on Sunday night in Brazil, then does not perform again until Nov. 24, making it possible for her to make kickoff.

Swift is a noted Eagles fan, by the way, which is causing some consternation. The hosts of the “Bex and Buster” show on Q102 in Philadelphia have even “been forced to punt” her from their popular playlist until after the game.

[TD]This is the game of the week, a rematch of
last February’s Super Bowl. The Chiefs won
that one, despite an amazing game by
                              Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts. He
hasn’t looked healthy this season. The Chiefs
defense is playing really good football. That
will be the difference as they slow down the

The Super Bowl rematch is set up to be the headline game of this year’s regular season.

After 15 days of rest, the (7-2) Kansas City Chiefs are finally back in action, with a game that makes the wait through the bye week worth it. Kansas City will host the (8-1) Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday Night Football; kickoff is set for 7:15 PM Arrowhead time.

The Chiefs sit as a three-point favorite, according to DraftKings Sportsbook, signaling a very even contest.

The rematch of Super Bowl LVII is as anticipated as it was leading into the season, and possibly more so: the Chiefs have the potential to take a stranglehold of the AFC playoffs with a win, staying at two losses with head-to-head tiebreakers against two of the other three-loss contenders. Philadelphia would remain the only one-loss team in the NFC with a victory.

I have five things to watch in the NFL’s best primetime game this season:

                                1. A cleaner Chiefs’ pass offense

Coming out of the bye week, the Chiefs’ focus is on reducing turnovers and penalties. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy expressed that this week, along with saying the longer-developing pass plays can be executed better — despite the focus of defenses to bottle it up.

“When you look at our downfield numbers, we’re still taking shots,” Nagy told reporters on Friday. “The biggest thing is we want to be a little bit more efficient with those numbers. You still need to keep defenses honest, however you do it.”

The Eagles’ defense may give Kansas City’s passing attack an immediate chance to prove they can play cleaner: Philadelphia is allowing the fifth-most passing yards per game this season and third-most touchdown passes. The midseason addition of safety Kevin Byard was necessary because the Eagles’ back end can be exploited.

With Philadelphia surrendering the fewest rushing yards per game (66.3) in the NFL, teams must attack through the air. Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be dropping back early and often; it will be a good test for Mahomes’ decision-making, being patient and efficient — but also striking when the big-play opportunity is there.

                                2. Constantly accounting for Jalen Hurts’ legs

In Super Bowl LVII, Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts attacked the Chiefs on the ground with 70 yards, but only 12 of them came on scrambles. The designed run game got Hurts loose a few times, an aspect of offense that has gotten the best of Kansas City’s defense at times under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

It gives the offense an additional player to use in the run game, but Philadelphia’s system may be even harder to defend because of who’s taking the snap.

“[Jalen’s] one of those quarterbacks that can beat you with his brain, he can beat you with his legs, and he can beat you with his arm,” Spags described in his Friday press conference. “He does it all. He’s faster than you think he is, just when you think you got him, he’s in and out of there.”

This season, only Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has more yards on designed runs than Hurts. With the addition of running back D’Andre Swift — currently seventh in the NFL in rushing yards — the Eagles will attack the Chiefs in more than one way on the ground; Kansas City is allowing 4.5 yards per rush attempt, the sixth-highest rate in the league.

                                  3. Eliminating Philadelphia’s explosive plays

As Kansas City accounts for Hurts’ ability to run, it has to balance that with effectively covering wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. The duo will be on the field for nearly every offensive snap and are a threat to catch a long pass at any moment. In last year’s matchup, each was on the receiving end of a 45-yard completion.

“[Hurts] has [weapons] all over the place with the wideouts,” Spags acknowledged on Friday. “We’re going to be totally in tuned to that, because we feel like the explosive plays bit us the last time we played them. We have to eliminate those, try to make them earn it a little bit.”

Ideally, Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is the primary coverage defender for Brown — while cornerback Trent McDuffie matches up best with wide receiver DeVonta Smith. When the two are inevitably switched up, don’t be surprised to see Hurts force Brown a jump ball or two; that’s how Philadelphia scored the second touchdown in Super Bowl LVII.

                                  4. The Chiefs’ execution in short-yard offense

As previously mentioned, the Eagles’ run defense is arguably the league’s best, and that’s because of the monsters they can play along the defensive line.

That’s not the most favorable matchup for a Chiefs’ offensive line that has struggled to get a push on run plays in recent games — specifically later in the downs: the Chiefs have failed to convert on six of the team’s 14 rush attempts on third or fourth and short this season.

The Chiefs’ coaching staff will need to have a pretty deep bag of play calls prepared for those situations, focused on ways to negate the talent of Philadelphia’s front. The Eagles do rank 25th in third-down conversion rate allowed, so Kansas City has a chance to control the game on these crucial downs if the unit executes.
