Wow…watching that video brought forth some emotions for me. I’m not full Indian, but am partially Cree and Shawnee…my two maternal great grandmas were full blooded. Some of those Indian ancestors were mine. I’ve done much research over the years on my native heritage, so am aware of all the horror & cruelty the video revealed. Still, when I think about what happened it brings much sadness, even some anger.
Maybe this explains why I’m more proud of my Indian blood than my european blood line. I’ve always felt more of a natural bond to my Indian ancestors also, even as a kid. Heck, since I was a little girl my personality has been naturally, or instinctively drawn to indian culture, style, etc.. For example…my favorite stone is turquoise, always has been…”sky stone”… Indians call it.
I wish the buffalo still roamed. Where I live now is one of the few remaining native prairies in Kansas. I have 80 acres of beautiful prairie meadows…filled with native wildflowers & grasses. Sometimes I sit outside and imagine the buffalo that once roamed my prairie meadow.
