Is Microsfot a “knock-off brand” 😆

06/18/2008 at 9:07 am #843264Vista has been much better since SP1 came out. I am actually considering going back to it full time now.
06/18/2008 at 11:36 am #843266I have never tried any of the other platforms, linux, eg. I’m scared of wrecking my computer. Maybe I’m blind by not having tried the other systems, but I don’t mind the windows operating system. In fact I like it. I do have computer crashes from time to time, but it usually a function of hardware limitations(Ram, processor speed, etc). It has the least amount of compatibility problems of any OS on the market.

Many of the people I’ve talked to recently seem to have few to no problems with it.

all of the Linux platforms allow that for the most part.
The most Windows like Linux distro out there is PCLinuxOS. Very user friendly and easy to install.

I like Ubuntu, but this too sounds like it’s worth looking into. Does it also allow for Dual OS setup?
04/26/2009 at 6:28 am #881440Came across this old thread and decided that I would go ahead and d/l PCLinuxOS and see about giving it a shot.
04/26/2009 at 12:08 pm #881455What about Gentoo?
04/26/2009 at 1:48 pm #881463I got in on the Windows 7 beta back a few months ago and I must say it is heads and shoulders above anything else I have ever tried.
It fixes damn near all of the annoying problems that were with Vista, has the appearance, functionality, and smoothness of a mac OS, and Is all that and a bag of chips. When this thing comes out, it will finally give Microsoft some good rep, which they haven’t had in a while.

Can I get in on that or is it too late?

So I think you will have to wait until August I believe, in one of the emails from the Microsoft Beta Test team it said that they were gonna have free trials of it, and some sort of huge uprgrade discount for those who have Vista.

Cool! Thanks!
I’m currently using pclinuxos off the CD and it, for me, is not a lot different from puppy or ubuntu.
04/26/2009 at 6:05 pm #881527I tried MEPIS and couldn’t get on line with my evdo modem. Installed Vista and on line immediatly.
